Fluffbag Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Any preferences on tying line to a wiggle wart? Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 28, 2019 Super User Posted February 28, 2019 Owner Hyper Weld snaps directly onto the diving lure line tie eye. Tom Quote
Heartland Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 I like the split ring, they never seem to run right for me if I direct tie to them. Quote

Remember this is just my experience, your mileage may vary. A split ring or speed clip create a tie point that allows the bait to remain free, and does not kill the action. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 1, 2019 Super User Posted March 1, 2019 I don't know why you'd ever tie direct to a crank bait. I like the idea of a split ring over a snap. If you're paranoid about the line getting caught in the split ring, oval split rings fix that. 2 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted March 1, 2019 Super User Posted March 1, 2019 I like the pattern of that top one. Quote
Allaroundfishing Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 If you tied directly to the bait not split ring or line tie, use a "Rapala knot" or any other loop knot. it will give you a similar action. I know walleye guides that fish Lake Erie that only use loop knots because it give the trolling baits a different action. Just my Experience 1 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 1, 2019 Super User Posted March 1, 2019 Been using snaps on cranks for more decades than I care to remember. Much better option (IMO) to retying every time I want to change up. Just as effective as a split ring. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 2, 2019 Global Moderator Posted March 2, 2019 Most of my old pre-rap warts have a snap on them. I think it gives them a wider range of motion since they're such a wide wobbling bait. Quote
Vilas15 Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 They come with a snap on them if i remember right, so thats what ive used. Quote
Russ E Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I don't have any old wiggle warts left. I do have a few Luck E Strike G5 crankbaits that run similar. they come with a snap. I switched one over to a snap ring and it lost a lot of its action. Just use the snaps now. Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 2, 2019 Super User Posted March 2, 2019 Let's break this down; all 3 are Rapala retooled Wiggle Warts so none of them will run like the original Storm Warts. Tying to a round split ring can damage the line if the knot gets into the sharp wire ring ends on any lure. Tying direct to a snap is your best option as long as the snap isn't too heavy and doesn't open up. Tying direct to the lures eye can deaden the action with heavy line unless you tie a loop knot. FYI Don Iovino's Major Craft Zoner Hunter has the action of the original Wiggle Warts and has premium treble hooks. Tom Quote
