April trip to Chickahominy Lake in Virginia

Hi All,

  I planning a trip with my daughter to bass fish at Chickahominy Lake in Virginia on April 18th and 19th. Can anyone that fishes that lake give me some suggestions (best baits, locations, etc) for that time frame. We are going to be staying at Ed Allen's Campground and I'll definitely be checking in at the store when I get there to get some "up to the minute" ideas. Thanks!!!!

The mouth between Johnson and Lacey creek. Fish that entire area around the duck blind and out further. Also the outside bend of Johnson. That area in general is the best spot for sure. I would have a shad color trap, a square bill, Blk/blue senko, and a green pumpkin fluke. Work that trap and fluke to death. It’s a tough lake. Head to Diascund just down the road to wear em out.

Take a couple minute drive and fish the Chic River, you will probably have better luck. You can just about see the river from the campground below the dam.

I haven't been that far up the river in a couple of years.  Is the lock not open?

Get a GMCO map of the Chick River and Chick Lake before you head to the area.

 

Look at it closely and then read the posts above and any that are posted below so you can follow along on what is suggested. I would think some of the tackle shops around SML would have the GMCO maps in stock.

 

There are so many places to fish Chick Lake that it would not be fair to give them to you as some may produce and others not. But I agree with Cheeseburger Eddie on his post and suggestions.

 

Just fish the trees, Lacey and Johnson Creeks, the area southeast and across the lake from Eagles Landing, and the trees by the duck blind up lake by Old House Landing.

 

If you decide to head up lake from Old House Landing be aware of the snakes.

 

Show your map to the Ed. Allen guys and they can point out some places to fish.

 

If you are going to fish the Chick River, check out the tides to look for a high to low falling tide in the areas where you want to fish. And as far as I know, the lock from the river to the lake is still not open. Don't quote me on this as I don't go up to the dam that often and when I do I fish across from Roc-A-Hoc so I have not paid attention to the lock.

It’s open, I have a video on YouTube of me going through. If you insist on fishing the lake, head down river past the no wake zone. There are some good spots down there as well. Just past the no wake zone on the left Jus past the first dock there is some type of submerged structure. It looks like a big ladder, I usually wear that spot out with a senko. If you have electronics, should be able to locate it. Also, there’s is a “‘man made wall” just past eagles landing directly in front of a house on the water on the right. Fish all that area as well. Throw the fluke as close to the wall as you can. FYI these are all community holes, they are no secret and get hit weekly for Ed Allen’s bass tournament
