I have a question for you kayak DIY'ers.

In the link below, you will see a fiberglass rod that is used for a driveway/curb marker.  I have a couple of these at my house, and I would like to utilize one for a flag pole for my kayak.

In my mind, I see drilling a hole in to the deck of the kayak for this to fit through.  Now the part that I am struggling with.  What type of collar can I use that this would slide in to, but yet be secured inside the hull, directly underneath?  If this had standard aluminum threads at the end of it, I could screw it in to a nut, on the underside.  But it doesn't.

But it would also need to be removed when transporting, or going under overhangs like trees/branches, so easy in, easy out would be preferred.

Any suggestions?

If you have a track, I built a mount using a piece of 1" dowel. Drill a hole on the top for the rod. Drill a hole at the other end and hammer a coupling nut in. Use a track bolt to secure it to the track.

cause that makes too much sense

ugh, didn't think of that very simple option.

That would certainly work

If you zip tie a section of 1/2" ID pvc to your crate you'll be able to remove and install it whenever you feel the need. I guess another option that might look better is getting some of the clamps they use for conduit.

kenmitch - I was thinking the same thing.  I actually have some real small plastic clips for strapping coax cable and what not.  If they are loose enough around the pole, that would make it easy enough to slide in and out.
