Just bought 4 of the side mount version to put on my 12' tin boat. I assembled the first one by re-positioning the holder from the vertical mount position to the side hole position of the base. Problem is I cannot get it to come up to move it! It's like it's glued in there. Tried WD-40 but it hasn't helped. Went in just fine, no idea why I can't get it up and out. Any suggestions or tricks? Thanks!

Got a response from an owner of these rod holders at Amazon.com. He said to spray it with WD-40 and let it set. It WORKED! All is good with the world once again. LOL! :)

Thanks for the wd40. I too found that Scotty rod holder is easy to get in but super hard to get out. I used white lithium grease spray to get mine out last time.

Looks like you figured it out.  They're a pain.  I had two on my first kayak.

What is amazing to me about these holders is that the box of 4 that I received was so LIGHT in weight. I was afraid they'd be heavy, but quite the contrary. I'll keep that lithium grease spray in the back of my mind as well. Thanks guys! :)
