Looking for suggestions

I am looking for some type of plastic to hold a screw lock onto the bend of the hook (not the eye)- Basically a piece of plastic similar to a spinnerbait trailer hook keeper from falling off the original hook.

 

I have only come across the rapid fishing solutions "hook all" and was not really interested in paying that price for something that I think might work.

 

The spinnerbait plastic tubing ID is too wide- does anyone else have any ideas?

At Walmart and elsewhere, in the section where they sell hair bands, they have these really small, clear, bands that are used for holding braids.  They’re less than the diamater of a dime.  Wrapped a few times around I bet they would hold very well and are extremely cheap.

It's a good thing they're cheap. I have a ponytail and use those to hold it. The 'store' brands don't even last a day before they snap, Goody brand lasts a day, but that's it. Be prepared to replace that band frequently.

Loom bands work as well and come in a variety of colors. Packs of 100 for $1.99 at the craft store

I'm not sure if this is what you want, but you can cut small pieces of that stuff you use to put screen into screen doors (see picture) or (I think I saw a suggestion a few years ago from @scaleface about using holes punched from plastic lids)

This picture is exactly what I want to do.  Do you mean like hole punch the lid/plastic bottle and use it... I think this could work

Yes- Trying to do something a little smaller for a more finesse approach.  Just has to basically go past the barb and not go back over the top.

It has been suggested here before to use a paper punch to punch out discs from plastic lids, like butter or margarine tubs.  You can pierce or drill a small hole in the center, or just let the hook penetrate them.  My son mentioned to me that he does that and find they work just fine.  Small, light, free.

You might try punching out a disc from a   thick inner tube with a hole punch.

I'll bet rubber will not sand well.  It also may deteriorate due to ozone.  I think harder is better than softer here.  Ideal would be discs cut from a black plastic sheet of the right thickness.

Check out The Hook Pal. It’s the plastic lid hole punch idea. I use it for trailer hooks, securing soft plastics, etc. Videos on their site for all the uses. $15 for the kit I believe with tool and discs. They have several colors and even glo-in-the-dark discs. Same cost as a large pizza so price isn’t an issue

Z-man used to make a weighted hook called the Trigger hook. They have the bait buttons on them, I believe you can probably find the hooks cheap, but all you really need is a bait button. Saltwater guys who fish deep water for Grouper put them on live bait rigs in glow colors or pink etc. and they sell them in a box of 100 for like $2.

 

I think Tsunami or gottcha makes them. They are soft and kind of do the same thing. Maybe that would work. 

 

Wouldn't a bobber stop work? I am thinking the string kind you use for slip floats.

 

I think Z-Man puts them on all their worm hooks now that I think about it.....I am sure they can be purchased cheap in bulk from somewhere like Hagensfish etc.

You can buy small heat shrink tubing for cheap and just shrink it down and slip it over the eye of the hitchhiker. I do it to my spinnerbait trailer hooks when the original heat shrink gets worn out. I get mine at Harbor Freight.

Go to a lawn tractor shop (John Deere, Cub Cadet, Kabuto, etc.) and ask them to show you their yellow plastic fuel lines.

 

Purchase about one foot of the fuel line with the inside diameter and thickness you are seeking.

 

Cut the fuel line into the sizes you need for your situation and use it as a keeper.

 

One word of advice: the fuel line can be very tough and you must be extra careful when putting it on your hook. Use two pliers and keep hands and fingers away from the hooks.

I like this- now it lead me to think that a weight peg will work as well and since those come in packs of 1000's just not sure if it will interfere with the barb and be too small.

This - and I will tell you why: ease of dispensing and after stabbing myself with the hook multiple times, I no longer have to worry about it.

 

You can also put two buttons, 1 on top and 1 on bottom to really secure it Refills and the dispenser are easily found online also.
