Tatula SV can do just about everything well from throwing lighter lures to pitching heavy cover trouble-free and accurately.

But, it's a bit bulky and over-braked for distance.

Curado DC if you're seeking distance and better palming reel. Tatula SV for everything else..

I haven't used the DC but your description of the SV is just about spot on. I have 3 SVs, they really shine with lures 3/8oz and under and are great for pitching but where they really shine is for skipping docks, but my oldest son's Shimano Curado K casts further and my youngest son's Pflueger Supreme XT casts further than both. They are a little on the heavier side too, but I really don't notice myself.

Do you want mag brakes or centrifugal?

I believe the DC reels are all magnetic brakes. The DC module is able to mag force the very quickly during the cast to control spool speed constantly.

Don't own a Tatula SV.

I own two Curado DCs, but have not fished them yet.

I have owned, and fished, a Calais DC since it came out.  It's a helluva reel.  I use mine for chucking ~one ounce + spoons and such about to the edge of the horizon, into the wind, on a 7' 6" EH fast action TFO rod, for pike and musky.  What it'll do in those conditions, with those baits'll blow your mind.

It's stunning what it'll do with a 130 Whopper Plopper in terms of distance, if you're blind casting over open water.

So far, in back yard casting in cold weather, the two Curado DCs are producing similar distance and performance.

Here's the thing: DCs are great.  Period, exclamation point...But if you're an experienced fisherman, and are willing to tune the reel to conditions and your experience level, you'll get better performance with a high quality reel from any of the top brands at a similar price point.  probably a bit better.

If you want effective "plug and play"...and there's plenty of times when I do...I can't beat a Shimano DC reel.  If'n I be lookin' for that extra nth of performance/edge, I can, and do, have other choices...the DCs are easier, and I love fishing them, but like racing...I do better if I tune it myself rather than relying on a program.

Definitely!

I took my exsence dc to a seawall to do some saltwater fishing. I had to turn it to SP mode which is pretty silent after a while because people kept commenting on the noise and asking questions. Did more tech demos than fishing. I was a Shimano rep for the day ?

I'm pretty new to bait casters, but I own two (2), one's a Shimano SLX dc150 and the other is a simple Abu Garcia - Black Max. They're both on 7' medium & medium-heavy for just about everything.

I thought I wanted the Curado DC cause it sounded like the reel to have, but now I'm even more confused between that and Tatula SV TW and Zillion TWS.

Final question: Once I make a final decision and want to muscle stuff out of cover, which rod do I consider, heavy 7'+ or ??

I would say if you have the bones to pay probably the Zillion would be the best out of those 3 reels mentioned. As for the rod, I would highly recommend a Dobyns Fury 735C Mag Heavy. I use this as my froggin' rod and love it!

What line do you use with the Calais DC?

I run 50# braid tied to 30# wire leader tied in with an FG knot.
