ohboyitsrobby Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 I'm super excited about extra daylight. Being as the shop is a whopping 3 minutes from the boat ramp it's easy to get excited. Just tote the ole javelin to work and fish till dark. Plus dst means it's getting warmer and there'll be more ways to catch em. 1 Quote

My internal clock has me up at 5am every morning, once summer rolls around I have to set the alarm for 4:30 so I can be on the water as the sun comes up. Wife still finds it amusing that I dont set an alarm for work but do for fishing I think TN is talking about making DST permanent because of how the state is split Quote

It won't get light here until 8 a.m.! For me the day is half over! ? Is there something preventing you fron fishing before daylight? Quote

Pick a time zone and be done with it. We were one of the last states to convert. Still one or two left, holding their ground. Welcome to the club! Idiotic at best. Quote

OCdockskipper Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 I will take the opposite stance from most of you, DST serves a purpose and benefits society. Where you are in a time zone will vary the specifics, but the issue with Standard time is you have the sun rising so early during the summer. In So Cal, if we kept standard time year round we would have first light at 4:30 am and sunset at 7:30 pm. DST moves an hour of sunlight to a time it is more useful for most people. Now my state is dumb enough to have voted to stay on DST year round (pending federal approval). That means come December, we will have 8:00 am sunrises. That creates an even bigger mess on our roads as well as safety issues for kids going to school. DST is nothing more than a simple way to manipulate the extra daylight we get in the summer months. I would prefer it to begin later (April) and end earlier (October). Nonetheless, I like the purpose it serves. 2 Quote

I remember trying it year round, and it was dark too late for the bus. I definitely don't need sunrise to be any earlier in June/July, and enjoy it getting dark later. 1 Quote

Have yet to be bothered by one and most of them will turn tail and run if they see you coming. The probability of you getting attacked is lower than that of you getting in a serious car wreck. Without knowing your situation, I can tell you I'm young and still willing to take risks but don't let fear hold you back either. Plus, there are lot's of precautions you can take to prevent a chance encounter. Gotta risk it for the biscuit. ? Quote
apenland01 Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 I think if you are in the middle of the US, it isn't as bad as if you are on the coasts. In the dead of winter, the sun rises around 7am and sets about 6pm. In the dead of summer, the sun is up at 530am and sets around 8pm. I guess if you were on the coasts, it could be odd, but it works in Arizona nicely.... Quote

Indiana used to not observe it, one of the last to change, but we caved and I’ve been bitter ever since - lol ? We used to leave Ohio at 6 pm and get to Indiana at 5:30 pm after a 30 minute drive. But, then it catches up to you on the way back and you're late to stuff. Quote
schplurg Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Maybe we should design clocks so that noon is always when the sun is "straight up". Sundials? Run clocks at 24 hours and one minute per day or sumthin? All of our phones can sync to this master clock - they kinda do already - and we'd never notice. Something like that anyways. I think changing the clock twice a year is ridiculous. There are better ways. Quote
