Daiwa Magforce dial settings

I fish with both a new Daiwa Fuego and also an older Daiwa Magforce MA10G. The Magforce dial on the Fuego goes from 0 to 20, with max brake at setting 20. The dial on the MA10G goes from 0 to 10, with max brake at 0. When did Daiwa decide to reverse the min/max??? I keep getting them mixed up ?

Someone has likely had the reel apart or the dial is broken.

What combination of reassembly errors could lead to the mag dial working backwards? 

 

I managed to get a handle to spin backwards once but Haven’t found the “magic” combination to get the brake dial to work backwards.

Reinserting the magnet ring in backwards/upside down? I’ve had several older Daiwas where the magnet broke free of the ring housing and Magforce was full power regardless of setting until I removed the magnet and reglued it back in place. If you put that magnet in upside down, or shifted it’s aligned position, would you end up reversing polarity alignment? Just guessing though

Huh, I have only cracked the brake sideplate open a few times and didnt even know the mag ring would fit in backwards.

I know it doesn’t sound right, and still didn’t sound right today while fishing so kept switching back and forth between 1 and 10 and frankly it was obvious which was high and low brake setting. So maybe I do have something screwy inside. My Fuego has a lot of cast control between 0 and 20 so easy to check when I forget.

My old PMA1000 instruction manual mentioned something about having to reset the magnet if you fiddled around with it while the sideplate was off. I seem to vaguely recall having something similar happen to me, but it was 30+ years ago so it’s pretty fuzzy.

This is what I get for keeping 30 year old reels in service. Mike at Delaware Valley Tackle has kindly pointed me in the right direction. Upon inspection I believe my magforce magnet has come unglued from the adjusting gear it uses. I can see that my gear rotates but the magnet stays in the same location. I am going to get some fresh super glue in the morning and reattach it.

Exactly what has happened to me with several of my older TD-Hi models over the years as I mentioned above. Seems to be a common occurrence if you keep them long enough. Good to know it's not just my bad luck or abuse

Yes, I see that now! Sorry, I guess the first time I read your post I couldn’t really follow it as I couldn’t visualize the parts. Now I can for sure ! ?

 

any recommendations for a glue? All my super glue is dried up (I tried to,glue it tonight) so will have to buy some new stuff in the morning.

I’m guessing any good superglue would do it. Don’t remember exact brands I’ve used. You have to get the magnets lined up right when you do it. Look at another one you have to get right alignment. Another trick is turn your Magforce all the way to ten. If I remember right, by doing that, the magnets will naturally “attract” in the correct alignment. Then don’t adjust Magforce dial until the glue has had plenty of time to dry.

When the magnets are "self aligned", this is the position of max Mag Force.
