Hey guys and gals. So I want to get more into jig fishing this year (bladed jigs, finesse jigs, etc) The water that I fish is typically dirty water or somewhat clear but always a lot of cover , weeds, brush. Nothing crystal clear. What line would you recommend. I've used braid for chatterbait and spinner bits but never had much luck. Any input appreciated

Spinning tackle:  Tatsu #6

Baitcasting:  Tatsu #12 or #15

If you are not comfortable with the cost these are my suggested alternatives:

Spinning: #6 InvizX

Baitcasting"  #12 or #15 AbrazX

I'm a braid guy.  I use 30 pound Powerpro, no leader.

Thinking of trying 30 pound 832 just because.

Given that you are fishing water with heavy(ier) cover I would actually recommend you to go to something like 16-20 pound fluro (either straight or with braid backing).

#12 is not enough in my opinion.

What rod and reel do you use?

12lb or 15lb Seaguar Invizx

This is the same as I normally throw.  Once in awhile I will throw braid in the heavy grass or go lighter but its not very often.

I don’t think it’s fair to blame braid for your lack of luck with those baits. There are valid arguments for all kinds of line applications. It’s one piece of the puzzle though. Don’t get too hung up. I like braid for line handling, sensitivity and hook setting. Visibility or lack there of is a non issue in my experience.

Off color water with lots of abrasive cover and learning to fish jigs with MH/F casting rod my suggestion is 12 to 15 lb Big Game mono. 600 yard spool is under $9 so you can change often as when needed. Big Game is highly abrasion resistant and good knot strength, I doubt if FC will improve your strike detection or increase the number of bass caught per hour.

If you’re using a MH Rod I'd recommend 14# Trilene XT or 17# XT if the cover is on the heavy side. If you’re using  H action rod I’d go right to 17# XT. If you’re fishing heavy vegetation 50# braid. JMHO

I use 40 or 50# 832 depending on cover. If I am fishing a rocky bottom i will throw a 20# fluoro leader on.

30# PowerPro with a 15# Big Game mono no longer than 5'. That allows me to pitch or flip without the knot being in the rod guides. But most of the time I probably don't need the mono. It's a mental thing. It also allows me to break the jig off if necessary. I use this same combo for my T rigs, though I've basically replaced the T rig with the jig.

For jigs like a football head or a biffle head that are heavier and I want to get to the bottom quickly and drag and bump back to the boat I prefer braid,  30lb is fine for my application.  Moving baits, like a swimjig, or chatterbait, my go to line is usually 12lb FC.

I use 15lbs AbrazX Fluorocarbon and the wife uses 30lbs Power Pro braid...
