Super User FishTank Posted June 28, 2007 Super User Posted June 28, 2007 I stopped by my local Gander Mountain to pick up a lure I had lost and some Yum Dingers I was out of and I noticed that some of the Dingers I picked up looked exactly like Gander Mountains version. I asked the sales guy and he had no clue. The plastic looked the same but the sent of the bait was different. We even measured the dia. and length and weighed them. They were identicle. Are Yum and Gander's soft plastic made by the same people? Quote
Fish Man Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 yes,,,monday when i was getting my new pole the guy convinced me to buy some senkos (never tryed any until yesterday)but to save me money recomended knock offs an i said like yum dingers(the only knockoffs i could think of) and he said yea they are the same thing but cheaper by about a dallor or so,apparently they buy them from yum but have different colors.they catch fish too,my first fish on one was 4 pounds but i got bored of fishing slow an went to a toad Quote
benpsut Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Ah! The black magic series! Great baits, really are, because they are cheap in $$$. I buy the craw trailers for my jigs and they work wonderfully. The finesse worms work great too, haven't tried the stick baits yet as i have a whole package of dingers to go thru before i need to go bait shopping again. I would suggest anyone into looking at these lures, try em out, they are wonderful. Quote
mike bat Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 ive seen the *** senkos seem to be the same as the gander mt trick sticks ..... but cheaper through *** as long as you order 100 ct at a time Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Glad to hear Gander Mountain offers good brand names as well as copies. They are opening a store here in my home town in the old K-Mart building(which is gigantic!). Quote
SENKOSAM Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 The Black Magic brand is made for Gander by a company that makes soft plastic baits for other companies, the difference being the salt content, scent and plastic firmness. The sticks were okay for 2 bucks a bag when the store first opened, but not for 3 bucks. Just not enough salt or softness for my liking. Black Magic has so many copies of baits, I've stopped counting and new ones come out every spring. Their craw jig trailer is the best I've used and I haven't found the same design anywhere so I copied it in plaster and pour my own. The Sweet Beaver copy isn't too great, but the crappie grubs are as good as Kalin's. Strange how Wave Industries have lowered the price of Tikis, Bamboo sticks, etc. for Walmart and Gander, but are full price on line. Quote
Tpayneful Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 My favorite trailer is the 2.75" black and blue craw chunk! There is one major problem with Gander Mountain. Buy whatever you want when you see it because they are the worst restocking store in the history of retail. Once they run out of a Senko, jig, Brushog..etc, you will not see them again until next year. To mask the fact that they have run out they spread the existing stock to fill in all the pegs. All the pegs will be filled with 3/4 oz chartruse and black jigs. The whole Senko section will be filled with 3 colors of the bait. The craw trailer that I mentioned above is out of stock and I will not be able to buy any more until next spring. I will need to find an alternative somewhere else. I don't know if all of the stores are bad but the one in Fredericksburg, Virginia is THE WORST! Quote
benpsut Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Hmmmm, up here in Washington PA they stay pretty stocked. i know the guy personally who is the top guy in the fishing department I'll ask him about it. Quote
SENKOSAM Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 they are the worst restocking store in the history of retail. You've never been to Dicks then. They are the worst! Gander in Middletown, NY is getting there, but the bigger problem is the re-organization, or should I say disorganization of all the stock. For two years you could find things easily because of the logic of putting like-tackle together. Now things are separated and mixed up.Walmart may not keep stocked, but at least the stock is in the same place every time I go. I don't like to pay the shipping for cat. orders, but what choice?
