Eynt Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 So I jumped on the sale from Gander and bought a St Croix Legend Elite 6'10" spinning rod. Read that this model rod is only 3.4 oz. I'm thinking of pairing it with a Daiwa Tatula TL 2000 (I have the 2500 model already and like it), but would love to hear suggestions from people with more gear knowledge. Thanks in advance! Quote
Brad Reid Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 You are going to get a ton of recommendations to pair that rod up with a Shimano Stradic Ci4+ in either a 2500 or 3000 size. I'd go ahead and get the 3000 I suppose. Light, strong, durable, water tight, great drag. It may even be cost-effective as they are made so very well, it'll likely outlast some of the cheaper models by years and years. Brad 1 Quote
fvogel67 Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 I have the Tatula 2500 on a 7'M Legend Elite and it's perfect.Super light and extremely well balanced. 1 Quote
Eynt Posted February 21, 2019 Author Posted February 21, 2019 If i was to go with the Stradic, would the 1000 size model be too small? I also read somewhere the Stradic 1000 is about the same size as Tatula 2000. I really want to keep the total weight down and would likely use it for drop shotting with 10lb braid to 6lb leader. BoatSquirrel Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Its the old Shimano/Daiwa battle—another for the Tatula 2500! Daiwa and Shimano employees must be like Redskins vs Cowboys fans. Raiders vs Broncos. Bama vs Auburn (without the tree killing hopefully.) 1 Quote

waymont Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 I have a 6'6" ML legend Tournament Walleye St Croix, and it's perfect with either a 2000-3000 Tatula LT. My favorite reel on there is a 2000 LT with 10lb braid. A very versatile rig. 1 Quote

I have a CI4+ 1000 on a StC L/F (panfish combo) and a CI4+ on a StC M/F (do-all bass combo). Just got a StC Avid 6'9 ML/XF and was wondering which CI4+ to put on it. Tried them both on and the 2500 felt better balanced. Didn't feel too undersized on the ML. For a StC ML, if you're going with the CI4+ I'd go with the 2500 size. Quote
Big-Bass Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Get the Tatula LT 3000 in the shallower spool size of the two 3000s. PERFECT reel for that rod. 1 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted February 22, 2019 Super User Posted February 22, 2019 Forget the reel brand hype for the moment. You want a 2500 or 3000 series with a bigger spool for casting purposes. The bigger diameter spool will cast further & handle line flow better. Now if your just vertically drop shotting and want to keep the reel weight to a minimum you can go with a 1500 or 2000 series reel since your just flipping or dropping your bait. I have used both 1500 & 2000 series reels for vertical drop shotting and they work just fine. Now that you have the reel decision made you can wrestle with the reel brand choices. 2 Quote

I also read somewhere the Stradic 1000 is about the same size as Tatula 2000. No the Stradic 1000 wouldn't be too small. The only spinning reels I use are Stradic FK and Tatula LT. The 1000 Stradic would fit great, it is heavier than any of the LT's 1000-3000. If you want a larger spool get the Tatula 3000 it has the same line capacity as the 2000 if you get the shallow spool version. It's just a little larger body and the spool is wider. The 3000 is only slightly heavier too. Those LT's are killer reels. I have 5! Quote
matbellon3 Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 I would get Ballistic lt 2500 or go with a Tatula lt 2500 . I only own the Ballistic paired on Loomis gl3 ml. I love the reel (when compered to the older stradic Ci4) it is light weight, has a excellent drag, and so far has been quite durable and reliable. Quote

For a StC ML, if you're going with the CI4+ I'd go with the 2500 size. A Ci4+ would work fine in a 1000 series if you mean for short casting presentations like a drop shot. You'll save 1.1 ozs. if weight is your main driver. But, you'll be limiting yourself for other presentations where larger (or more) line might be preferable, in casting distance, in line pick up speed, less apt to get spooled, etc. Someone here "schooled" me on a fact about the difference between a Ci4+ 2500 and a 3000, maybe it was A-Jay a few months ago, when I learned that both the 2500 and the 3000 weigh the same, just have different line capacities. Knowing this, I'd always select a 3000 over a 2500 just for that added bit of, what, capacity I guess. Back in the 50s, my grandfather once sewed his own tent for canoe trips up in Minnesota where portaging between strings of lakes made packing light essential. I recall him weighing everything to minimize loads. Sort of like Appalachian through-hikers . . . where every ounce counts. So, I get the idea of wanting to stay light for its own purpose. Brad Quote
Scuba Steve Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Earlier in the year I got a stradic ci4 in the 2500 size for my 6'6 medium light st croix avid. I felt like the 1000 was a bit too small. Quote
TBAG Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 I've never handled or used a Daiwa reel but I can say I love my 2500 Ci4+ paired with my spinning rods. Quote
The Fisher Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 I have the same rod with the LT 2000 for Ned and very light TX Rig loaded with 8# Suffix nanobraid and a Invizix Leader. It’s a great set up. I purchased a LT 2500 for wacky rig on an Avid M XF and like the 2000 more on the Legend. Quote
Eynt Posted March 3, 2019 Author Posted March 3, 2019 Thanks everyone for the great input. I got the rod a couple days ago and its amazing. I put my existing Tatula LT 2500 on it and it balances great and is super light. But I think I'm going to buy a 2000 size anyways to try out. will report back. Now I'm thinking I should get another med power one as a dedicated senko rod, but might be over kill. Quote
ericw55anddogrufie Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 and yes I apologize the rod length is 6'9" Quote
