Crow Horse Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 A friend of mine is considering starting to use braid with an old rod. I think the guides are stainless. Are there any issues in doing this? Thanks.... Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 19, 2019 Super User Posted February 19, 2019 The guides need to very hard carbide or ceramic inserts so the braid will cut grooves into them. If the guide rings are the same color as the frames he shouldn't use braid. Tom Quote
Crow Horse Posted February 19, 2019 Author Posted February 19, 2019 Thanks Tom! It's a vintage Ted Williams rod (from Sears) and more than likely the guides are stainless without inserts....... Quote

Crow Horse Posted February 19, 2019 Author Posted February 19, 2019 I might be wrong. Although I've never seen the rod in question, I did some research and apparently they did use carbide guides. I'm hoping to get a picture of it to make a better determination. Thanks for your help! Quote
thinkingredneck Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Having cut grooves in an old rod I would be careful Quote
