What would the above reel be worth if it's a 9/10 condition? I'm looking at one a guy has for sale but he asked me to give him a figure and I don't know what i should throw at him. I'm hesitant buying older tech too...is it worth it?

In perfect condition with original box and brochure maybe 80-$85, but am not a cost expert on old reels. I got $85 for my perfect condition Curado 100B reels and will hang on to my last two because they are such incredible reels now 12 years old and purring.

The E5 is a 5.3:1 cranking reel for starters. The E reels went on clearance for $99 at one point. They have a cult following though and do have some value. Technology wise they're perfectly good reels. I'd consider $50-$75 fair depending on condition. Check eBay for completed sales to see what others paid.

I thought I read where they came in a 7.0 and a 5.3 version? Also, any idea when the last year they were sold was?

E5 is the 5.3

E7 is the 7.1

Good reels but not worth what some people want for them. I would offer him $75 if it is in near mint condition.

The G series replaced the E's and I believe that they were released in 2011. However, I would choose the E over the G any day of the week.

Check E-Bay and you'll see that E's are going for quite a bit more than 75-80. I think they're overrated and I owned several. FWIW I found the G to actually be smoother. It took a real hosing because of poor marketing by Shimano.

I saw what they are going for, I just don't think they are worth that. I also don't think a Core 50mg is worth $280 but people seem to get that for them.

Just because of hype from those popular young YouTubers. BTW I’ve seen good condition 200E would go for 135, but you can buy 200i good condition for less than 100 or brand new 200K for what you would pay for 10 years old reel.

Yeah, I would offer the guy $60 for it...if he doesn't accept that I'll pass. I won't pay the price i could get a brand new Curado K for!

I sold a couple fairly well used 200E7s for $150 not too long ago. Guys just seem to love them but I guess I wasn't as overly impressed with them. The E5 is the slower cranking model, I still have one that DVT supertuned for me that I really like but I wouldn't pay almost new value for a used one like guys are doing right now.

I still have E's and G's in my rotation.  I actually found that the G was a tad smoother as well.

Regarding the original post.  The most I'll pay for an E is 90-100 in pristine condition.

Bought my last 200E7 in September, 2011 and my next purchase was a Chronarch 150 in December, 2013, but my feeble mind cannot remember why the Chronarch because I just wanted one (gift cards), or the 200E7's were no longer available.
