Sooooo I'm having an issue (I'm sure its user error) with my reel handle not turning when I tighten my drag star down. Once I loosen the drag, it reels just fine, but as soon as I tighten my drag star down, I can't reel my handle.

This happened after taking my reel apart, cleaning it, and re-assembling it. I've re-assembled it exactly how I've seen it done in tear-down videos online, but continue to have this issue.

I've taken it apart and re-assembled it for nearly the last hour and a half now, but I'm still stumped.

Thoughts!?!?

Are you making sure the drag components are both in the correct order and the correct side "up"?  That matters as well.

No way to know. Maybe the sleeve that sits over the gearshaft isn’t in its grooves? Maybe a washer is misaligned? Maybe a Belleville is upside down or installed out of order? Maybe a spring? No way to know without cracking it open and looking at schematics. I would guess something is misaligned.

Some reels only stay properly oriented and aligned if you lockdown the drag as soon as the handle is on and then check all screws for tightness. Then after it’s all back together, you can back the drag off.

Something is definitely not put back correctly. I'm guessing it's a spring issue or washer issue. Thought maybe a gear wasn't aligned for a second, but it it will reel when the drag is loosened it leads me to believe it is closer to the handle end. I'm no expert though, maybe some of the guys who have a lot more experience than me will chime in.

Happens sometimes when you have something out of order and is being smashed into the A/R bearing when you tighten the drag.

Good luck with the fix!
