kjfishman Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 I have a Motorguide Brute 54 and thinking of getting a 55 lb Minn Kota Power drive 2 because I can get a longer shaft and the Minn Kota is variable speed.. I fish a lot of lakes that gas motors aren't allowed and pull the boat up on the trailer by simply pulling the motor up withe the rope as I get very close to the trailer. My concern is how easy will it be to load the boat on the trailer with the Power Drive 2 trolling motor. Quote
Allen Der Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 The power drive stow and deploy mechanism is garbage. Look at a terrova instead Quote
riverbasser Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 I have one on my boat because it came with it. I really like the remote steer but would not buy another one. The terrova seems to be the better option or of course the ultrex being the best Quote
Russ E Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 I would get an Ultrex. they are expensive, but well worth it. I load my fiberglass bass boat on some lakes by just using the trolling motor. The foot pedal alone is a no show for me on the terrova, power drive, or Ulterra. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 17, 2019 Super User Posted February 17, 2019 Powerdrive foot pedal is garbage. If you get powerdrive, get it with Ipilot. It's hand control only and will not let you down. Quote
Ppennin986 Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 I have this trolling motor you speak of. if it wouldn’t have came already installed on my boat I would have gotten something else It stinks for mounting transducer on it. the foot pedal is on a long cable but foot pedal sucks the deploy they call easy sucks it’s hard to yank the thing back up into place. heck no I wouldn’t use it to get the boat back on the trailer . it is good on the battery I can tool around all day. I’m considering getting the remote control option for mine . It’s 135 bucks Quote
Allaroundfishing Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 I bought my power drive v2 to put on my 18ft Jon boat i use to bass fish with. I have knee and back problems so the foot pedal appealed to me. It can be a little cantankerous to pull up but i found that if you take a buff pad and some polish and put on where the joints meet to slide up it makes it much easier to slide in. The only complaint i have is mounting a transducer would seem rather tricky, i haven't put a transducer on mine personally i know it can be done though. The few times my outboard has quit on my i used it to put the boat on the trailer and had no issues with it. just my experience. Quote
