Super User gim Posted February 5, 2020 Super User Posted February 5, 2020 Rumor has it that Mahomes is up for a new contract worth $40 mil/year. That would make him the highest paid player in the history of the NFL. Quote

Be interesting if they do it now, or if they wait until the CBA to see if they do in fact have a clause to make the QB's pay off the books where he could possibly get even more than that. Still has 1 more year on his rookie deal and a 5th year option, although they obviously aren't going to take it to that extreme, but I mean the guy pretty much gets to name his price at this point because if they Chiefs don't pay him another team will. This should probably be the start of the “Road to 2021 Super Bowl” thread. I would think his endorsements have the potential to be worth a lot more than a contract. Although at the level he is worth that may be getting close to not true. Endorsements are going pay a whole lot more with rings added to his fingers. If he takes a huge contract that will leave less room to add/maintain support players. Of course it’s could be a little bit of a “one in the hand, two in the bush” argument. Especially in a profession that can end early with injury. When asked about it he said “that’s for other people to decide.” Not exactly sure what that means, but it seems kind of scary because other people are less likely to have his best interest first and are likely looking to cut a deal to get themselves a slice now. Money can buy a lot of things, but it cannot buy Super Bowl championships and Mahomes seems to be more interested in championships at this point. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted February 5, 2020 Global Moderator Posted February 5, 2020 They need to extend now imho. He goes from 2.7 in 2020 to 24 in his option year. If the number is 40 a year, that essentially is a 7 yr contract before the new CBA. The question of how much the contract is really worth is if it’s “new money” or just a straight extension. If that’s the case the average will approach 50. I don’t follow the Chiefs enough to know where they stand cap wise but I saw somewhere that it’s in the bottom 1/3 of the league. He should go after a guaranteed percentage increase every year as the cap increases. That could help to free up cap space to sign other players which all teams need to do with qb’s out of their rookie contract. Especially 1st round picks. Mike Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted February 6, 2020 Super User Posted February 6, 2020 mahomes needs to look at seattle when deciding on what to pursue regarding his contract. its either take the money, or settle for less and take the championships. seattle was looking at a super bowl every year practically until russell wilson broke the bank, now they're dredging for players that they can afford, still a contender but not the powerhouse they were and could be. Im not saying he doesn't deserve it, he does, but there are decisions to be made. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 6, 2020 Author Super User Posted February 6, 2020 KC RULES! I think the team will be able to figure out the details. Mahomes is THE FRANCHISE!,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 6, 2020 Super User Posted February 6, 2020 The Knicks and the Red Sox both need Mahomes too, lol. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted February 7, 2020 Author Super User Posted February 7, 2020 It's easy... $10mm more than the next highest player in the league, every year for the next ten years. Start at 50 or 60m and go from there. Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 17, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 17, 2020 Just read where Brady said he’s leaving New England. What happens next @A-Jay? Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted March 17, 2020 Super User Posted March 17, 2020 IMO TB12 stands alone. And the Tom Brady love is Real and Well Earned. Thank You hardly seems like enough but it's all we've got. Good Luck to him moving forward and remember, if & when you play the Pats again, as you're getting up off the ground, It's just Football . . . Hate to see him go but definitely would prefer to watch him "age' with another team. As a man 20 years his senior, I can say with quite a bit of confidence, it's coming. A-Jay Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 17, 2020 Author Super User Posted March 17, 2020 I think it's sad. The GOAT should retire with the Patriots, he REALLY doesn't need the money... Maybe a new wife. 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 17, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 17, 2020 It’s like Montana leaving the 49’ers and Favre and Reggie White leaving the Packers. It’ll be weird to see him in a different uniform. Quote

Super User J._Bricker Posted March 17, 2020 Super User Posted March 17, 2020 Brady provided an unparalleled level of excellence and stability to the Patriots organization. I think he’ll end up in San Diego, er..I mean Los Angeles and would be a good mentor for a franchise quarterback if the ‘bolts draft on this year. I read this morning Andy Dalton is potentially the front runner to replace Brady in NE even though I thought Teddy Bridgewater might be a good fit prior to the CAR signing. 1 hour ago, 12poundbass said: It’s like Montana leaving the 49’ers and Favre and Reggie White leaving the Packers. I agree, but if I remember correctly Montana was coming off back surgery, Steve Young was ready to take over and the salary cap was, as always a consideration. Lots of stuff to keep us occupied as I observe the mandatory shelter in place. Be safe and be well Quote
