I ordered a Shimano Expride (7'2" MH/F casting) off of TW back around Christmas time. I know that the waiting list is quite extensive for these rods, but was wondering if anyone waited the full time and how long it took? The next shipment TW has on their website is for April 26 and I'm just not sure I want to keep waiting for the rod. Is it worth the wait? Am I able to cancel my order on TW if I don't want to wait? Does anyone have any recommendations to other rods in this same price range around 7'-7'4" MH/F is what I'm looking for. I will be pairing it up with a Chronarch MGL. Thank you all in advance!

The shortage seems to be a universal thing, the more popular models are going for a premium on ebay it looks like.  It's strange though, it's not like Shimano is a little mom&pop company that had a product blow up and became unable to meet demand. But, it seems like Japanese companies are really conservative when it comes to production numbers for new products.  The most "famous" case recently was Nintendo.  They released an updated version of one of their classic consoles a few years ago and completely underproducted for the demand, they were selling on ebay for like 300-400% of MSRP and it took Nintendo months and months to get more on the market.

Interesting, I had no idea these rods were in such demand. I browsed the TW selection and everything but the 9' Exprides are on backorder. I've never owned a Shimano rod but might have to give one a try.

I agree, I just don't know how these are always out of stock for how big of a company Shimano is...I might have to cancel my order and go with the 7'6" MH/F because I found one available elsewhere. I'm primarily going to be using this for jig fishing, but never have bought a bass rod longer than 7'3" so I am a bit hesitant.

A lot of japanese companies practice JIT. Which stands for just in time. Its great for when things are going how you expect them, but a turn for better or worse can take a toll on inventory and production. Great for lean manufacturing.

I have two exprides def some of my favorite rods and in my opinion the best rod in that price point. You can cancel your order from TW, that is a long wait but they are some great rods. Just make sure once they become in stock you email or call them and make sure theyve shipped your rod. As much as I love tackle warehouse ive had issues with them and back ordered items most recently some berkley choppos. They forgot to ship my item and they became out of stock again then once they were back in stock the second time I had to call em to get em shipped.

That's why I ended up buying one because of all the great reviews they've been getting. I've heard about people having the same issue as you. The latest shipment for the rod that I ordered was supposed to be two days ago and now the next shipment says April 26th. I'm going to call them to see if they missed me like what happened to you. The only problem is that these rods are never in stock besides the really short or long rods like the 6' or 9' ranges.

Just out of curiosity, what two Expride models do you have?

The sad part it Tackle Trap had that model in stock last week.

If you want the 7'2" Heavy rather than MH you can get one off of Ebay for $242.99 from Simmons Sporting Goods. My friend just ordered one this week as below.

BUNDLE - SHIMANO EXPRIDE EX172HA 7'2" HEAVY BAITCASTING ROD + STICK JACKET)

Kistler has 21% off right now, a Helium 3 would be in the low 2's shipped. ALX Toadface or Deputy seem to get a lot of love. I like Powell Endurances for the price, you can almost buy 2 since they are $150. I also see a lot about the Alpha Angler Zilla.

Are you looking for another JDM styled rod?

Thank you very much for the info, I've never been out to Tackle Trap so it's great knowing I have one more website I can buy tackle from! :) I ended up looking on Ebay this morning and they had the 7'2" model so I bought that and cancelled my order from TW. He didn't blame me for not wanting to wait either. These rods are quite hard to come by! I got lucky!
