Festivus Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Hi. I bought a bunch of the Ochos on sale and haven't had a chance to use them, couldn't find any videos that show it's action. Was wondering if anyone had experience with the Ochos versus the Zero from Strike King. Thanks. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 15, 2019 Global Moderator Posted February 15, 2019 I'd rather have the Ocho over any stickworm out there personally, not just the Zero. For fishing weightless they just seem to have the best combination of action and fall rate that gets bit the most for me. Quote
Subaqua Adinterim Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 I may be mistaken, however, I believe the zero is the SK equivalent of the Zman big TRD. I have fished the big TRD and it is excellent in very shallow water as it has a very slow sink rate when T rigged weightless. The other plus with the Zman material is that is almost indestructible, as it's elastec. The minor downside (easily dealt with by keeping it separate)with this plastic is that you can't mix it with other plastics. One pack of the elastec material will last you more than 10X as long as the plastic used in traditional senko knockoffs so you can buy just one pack of the zeros if you wish to experiment with them and not be out a lot of $$ to see what they can do and have them for other applications. If you don't like them you can always cut them in half and use for the ned rig. 1 Quote

I was watching a lot of videos of underwater footage that showed various stick worm type baits, usually comparing a yamamoto senko versus something similiar like a yum dinger, etc. but never saw any actual footage of the ocho and they are readily available where I live. One thing I did notice was that the senko always had the best action, a few did have good action but not as good as the senko weightless. When they added a weighted wacky worm hook the action of the other stick baits greatly improved, was very interesting and eye opening for that type of presentation. 16 hours ago, RichPenNY said: I may be mistaken, however, I believe the zero is the SK equivalent of the Zman big TRD. I looked on the strike king webpage and didn't see it on there. I'll definitely pick up a pack if I run across them, I love a floating worm. Quote

Big TRD is slightly shorter and thicker with less salt. Sink rate changes as salt is dissolved. Eventually they float and need weight to keep them down. Your worm hook is probably heavy enough with the TRD but I've found that with a 1/16 wacky jig head my Zinkerz just hang at the surface. They're really porous. Takes 'em forever to dry out, too. 1 Quote

Are you referring to the fall rate and action of the Ocho or the Zero (it's not clear) ? Quote

Yes, they're a bit more durable too which is a bonus. 1 hour ago, ChrisD46 said: Are you referring to the fall rate and action of the Ocho or the Zero (it's not clear) ? The Ocho. Like someone else mentioned, the Zero is the Strike King version of the Zinkerz. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Next to the Senko the SK Ocho is my go to weightless worm. It casts really well and really far weightless and catches bass. Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted February 20, 2019 Super User Posted February 20, 2019 Haven't tried the Zero, but I didn't like the Zinkerz much at all -- they seem to get "spongy" and lose their sink rate really fast. But the Ocho, now that's a winner. It has a good shimmy when weightless that rivals the senko, and they hold up a little better than the senko and are cheaper. The 4" fished weightless is my best-producing small river/stream stickworm for smallies. Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 20, 2019 Super User Posted February 20, 2019 The Ocho has a better glide action then a Senko, more erratic fall and tends to get strikes from wider range a bass sizes. Senkos work better IMO wacky rigged then the Ocho. Tom Quote
