Super User Jrob78 Posted February 12, 2019 Super User Posted February 12, 2019 Day 1 started this morning. The groups from last week are the same but they reversed the starting order. Group A now goes day 2 and 4 and group B goes days 1 and 2. Conroe is cold and muddy right now but will warm up through the week. Expect some big prespawn fish. Live coverage starts at 10am central time. https://majorleaguefishing.com/ 1 Quote
BassNJake Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Looking forward to seeing how stop 2 plays out. The first stop was pretty exciting. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted February 12, 2019 Author Super User Posted February 12, 2019 Brent Ehrler is already at 23lbs a couple of hours in. I wouldn't be surprised if someone caught a 13lb+ this week. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 12, 2019 Super User Posted February 12, 2019 Still getting used to this deal - Like it so far though. A-Jay 1 Quote

Rpratt Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Kriet has moved up! Or should I call him Mr. Mayor? ? Quote
Super User Gundog Posted February 12, 2019 Super User Posted February 12, 2019 Adrien Avena's drain pipe was a producer. 2 Quote

Between the two of them they've been hogging all the action. Seems a bit of a shame that the first two days don't count for anything and the guys that have done well today won't fish hard on their second day, but I guess it's just the nature of the game. 1 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted February 13, 2019 Author Super User Posted February 13, 2019 Group 2 is going today and guess who is in the early lead? Jordan Lee. Lol, he is unstoppable right now. 1 Quote

Rpratt Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Andy Montgomery with a 9-6 takes the lead! Quote

MSWV Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 How bout James Watson throwing a buzz bait? Kinda surprising to me.. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 I don't know. I've followed the action for a bit the last two days, and it's nice to see people catching and the coverage is quite good, but when it's all completely meaningless I just can't really care. You're following the leaders, who will inevitably barely bother fishing on the second day because there's no need to beat their fish up as long as they get a top 20 position. What am I not getting? 2 Quote
HeyCoach Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Jordan Lee is on fire right now. It wouldn’t surprise me if he finished in the top 10 in this tournament and then won the Classic in Knoxville coming up in a few weeks. Quote
Basseditor Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 I’m going to Conroe on Thursday to check it out first hand. 1 Quote

They have to keep catching fish. With this format it's not that hard for someone to have a monster day and move up. An angler could be in 10th place overall but only 2 pounds ahead of the cut so it wouldn't take much at all to get booted out. The entertainment for me with the elimination rounds is watching the battle for guys making the cut. The entire field is full of big names so it's a big deal watching the guys fighting to get in the top 20. 1 Quote
Tim Kelly Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Yeah, I get that, but struggle to get excited about fishing for 20th place. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted February 14, 2019 Super User Posted February 14, 2019 The only difference with MLF is that there is now focus on some of these other positions and not just the leaders. Otherwise, it’s no different. Guys near the top of the leaderboard in other circuits routinely lay off their fish or “go practicing” as both a fish conservation strategy and a way to try and expand their main bite. Clunn even stated he nearly lost the St. John’s event because he pulled off his fish around lunch the first day thinking he had enough to be sitting good for the day. Also, guys are constantly struggling trying to make the Day 3 cut in other events, usually around 50th place. The circuits have just never cared to focus on that aspect in most events. The only difference is that now, MLF has chosen to cover all this as part of the drama, and not just a ‘leaders only’ type focus. 2 Quote
Tim Kelly Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Yes, you're right, but the trouble being that the weights getting wiped after the first two days makes everything about the top places worthless and the only passing interest is who has or hasn't made the top 20. If their weights carried forward it would be interesting, as it is in the best 5 formats, but with the weights wiped, meh. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted February 14, 2019 Super User Posted February 14, 2019 Going to be different for everyone. One of the best tournaments ever (IMHO) was the old BASS Megabucks. Everyone fished to make the final cut of 10 guys, and then they zeroed the weights, moved them to a new section of water no one had been able to fish and let them go at it. It helped make Larry Nixon a legend. It was different and exciting, and I think MLF is the closest thing going to that style format...I’m a fan. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 That sounds like a great format. I really enjoy the MLF TV shows and have subscribed from the beginning. I like the idea of the weights being wiped on the last days and a new body of water, or section. For me though, the current BPT format needs refining. Quote
