How far have you gone to retrieve a lure?

The woes of bank fishermen...

 

Once I spent a half hour crawling across a rotten, half submerged, spider infested log to get a Pop-r that I snagged on the the end. I would splash water on the log to wash off the spiders just to watch them swim back to me from all directions. I did get the pop-r back though...probably should have just spent $3.50 for a new one...

 

Also waded through knee deep black mud to retrieve a jig head...used that jig head twice since in three years...no fish on it...

It depends on where it is and the value of the bait. 

I fish out a fiberglass boat. if a bait is stuck in the rocks and I can't get it with a lure retreiver, it will probably get sacrificed.

A couple of years back, I was fishing with my favorite Super Spook Jr. This particular one flat out out fished others in my box. After catching a nice fish that wrapped me around a limb, I immediately cast back to the spot because I'd seen another fish follow my catch out.  My line snapped and the lure headed into the trees of the small island. I beached the boat and spent the better part of two hours looking for it. Over a dozen bug bites and scratches on my arms and legs, I gave up looking.  Went as far as offering a reward for anyone finding and returning it.

Broke off my favorite LC Pointer on a log and went back the next day to find it. After about 1/2 hour I found it along with about 50 other lures, Game warden stopped me and ask what I was doing so I told him why that lure was so special. I caught about 35 bass the day before until I lost it.

I've swam out into a brushpile to retrieve a bait. Waded waist deep into about <55* water to get a Triple Trout off a stump. It wasn't even my bait, I didn't get it stuck, but my buddy was having a mental breakdown about losing that expensive of a bait while also being terrified of getting into the water, so I went in and got it for him.

Not far enough on the 3 or 4 wec cranks I have lost over the years.

I've never gone swimming after a bait, but one time the top half of a two piece rod went out into the lake.  The end was just bobbing around out there and not moving toward shore.  After about 20 min of try to snag it with a crankbait I kicked off my shoes and swam out to get it.

Just turned 71 and I would still wade for one...............but wear compression stockings.  One is full leg length and would require me to take my pants off to get the stocking off.  If I had to swim for it (at any age), it was a lost lure.  i can't swim.

I wouldn't walk in that lake if I fell over!! ?

 

I lost a rod right out of my lap as I laid it down to grab some water. 

I bent over the gunnels up to my shoulders to grab it, and luckily I was able to barley catch the rod tip.

I have taken off my boots and socks, rolled up my jeans to the knees and waded into 40 degree water to retrieve a crankbait.

 

Only because it was my favorite.

Snagged a snapping turtle in the tail with my brand new whopper plopper that I was catching a bass every couple casts so I was quite determined to get it back. Spent about 5 minutes fighting this turtle and then managed to grab its tail and unhook the plopper. So much adrenaline pumping through my body! Will I get bit or will I get my lure back?!

A few years ago one of my Jackall jerkbaits was snagged right next to a dock. I cut the line and tied it to the dock so I could find it later. Drove 20 miles home to rig up a lure retriever and then drove back. The line eventually broke at the bait using the retriever. I started dragging the retriever on bottom and was able to snag the hooks and get it back.

I have gone far enough up into the woods to poke holes in the boat and bend trolling motor shear pins and armature shafts.

 

I now cut them off. Lures are cheap compared to boat and TM repairs.

Early morning,  deep in the mouth of a cove. To the point I was fishing a foot of water. I fire a long shot all the way back with my favorite Zara spook, it was all gnarled up,  but it had caught me a ton of fish. 

Sure enough about my 2nd twitch it manages to snag a full size pallet that was hidden in water. Pull and pull and finally snap my line. Now mad I crank the trolling motor into high and bury my boat in this nasty leaf/ mud bottom. Got the lure and spent the next half hour trying to get my boat back out. 

 

Probably wasted a full hour of that tournament.  But I still got er.

I waded in a sewage pond that was infested with snapping turtles to retrieve my only frog, it sucker I was searching for almost an hour when I finally found it.

I go out of my way to find lures nobody else would try to get. Up in trees, stuck in shallows or even on logs. So worth it. Have found some of my best lures this way!

Last fall while trying to learn a bait caster from the bank, I tossed a brand new shad and got it caught on a low limb.  I was only about 75 yrds from the boat ramp.  I talked a couple old timers into boating up to the limb and getting my plug out of the tree...  ?

Of course. I wade fish 99% of the time these days so I don't mind getting (more) wet. As a kid my dad and his friends would pay me a buck to jump in and go retrieve lures.
