AKMully Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this combo yet. I was just at my local Dick's and looking for a new spinning setup and when I tried this one I was instantly sold. The reel feels the smoothest I have ever felt for any type of setup I've looked at, the drag felt pretty good, and I'm just a sucker for matte black finish on anything. Disclaimer here, I'm kind of a noob so I've not played with anything truly high end yet, this is my most expensive rod/reel yet so I fully acknowledge there is likely better out there. A follow up for this question (which may be better for another thread) but what would you recommend for line on this one? Should I run a lighter braid with a fluoro leader or just straight fluoro? It's a 7' Med. Fast and I typically fish in stained to muddy water in my home lake. Thanks for any input you guys may have! Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted February 11, 2019 Super User Posted February 11, 2019 The reel on that combo appears to be similar to the Lew's Custom Pro Speed Spin I have. Pretty much the same stats but 2 less bearings. I love every thing about the reel. Fat bail, Awesome handle with Winn grip knob, flush and drain port, great drag, smooth and quiet. I run a straight fluoro hybrid 8-10# on mine. I think you will be very happy with the combo. 1 Quote
PLfishing Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 Hey, I haven't used this particular Lew's combo, but I own two Lews spinning reels and a couple rods and they work like a dream. Depending on what you want to use the combo for, I would recommend 40-60lb braid for topwater (I prefer Spiderwire Stealth Braid), but if for something like texas rigs, wacky rigs, shakey head, etc. I would recommend using 12-pound mono (I prefer Suffix Superior). Hope this helps! Quote
AKMully Posted February 11, 2019 Author Posted February 11, 2019 Thanks guys. I already had the Mach II speed spool combo baitcaster which is what drew me to checking out their spinning options so I'm with you on the quality up to this point with the brand. I'm pretty sure anything I would've picked would have been a notable upgrade from my 7' Daiwa Samurai X cheap-o setup that this is replacing!! ? Quote
