TNReb Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 I have several rods for fishing jigs and creatures, but I don't have anything on the heavier side for punching. Can anyone help recommend a rod? As far as budget goes... I don't want to say it's doesn't matter - but I'm willing to spend on a good rod. I'm just looking for something capable of pitching the heavier tungsten weights in to mats/weeds and getting a fish out effectively. I already have some extra reels to use (probably a Chronarch MG). Any experience with the Dobyns Champion XP flipping rods? My only experience with Dobyns is limited to a couple of Fury heavy rods I had. They were tip heavy and I didn't like them. Other recommendations? Quote
Finnz922 Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 Irod Genesis 2 Bub's Punch Rod is one bad ass stick. I don't own the Irod Air Bub's Sig Flip Rod, but it's on my list of must haves. You are already a Dobyn's guy and they make a bunch of solid rods capable of handling punching duties. Quote
junyer357 Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 I have the 765flip champ. Its a wonderful flipping rod. I like the balance and lightweight of it. It makes it easier than the cheaper ones i used before. It was heavier and i could really feel it in my arms and shoulders. I have done some light punching with the 765, but its a touch light for the heavier (1.25oz and up with a chunky plastic) end of punching. The 766 would be perfect though. Im waiting to find the right deal on a used one now. I only punch a few times a year, so its not worth it to me yet to buy one outright. Quote
RyneB Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 IROD genesis 2 Bubs punch rod. I've punched with a lot of other brands and rods, mostly high end. The Bubs is the best punch rod I've used. I've had mine for years and it's been flawless. I did have an eye insert come out of the tip eye. An email to IROD and I had a brand new tip eye in 6 days, didnt cost me a cent. Quote
j bab Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 I use a 7'9" XH Daiwa Steez SVF AGS. It is a dream to use, but you better REALLY be ready to spend Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 11, 2019 Global Moderator Posted February 11, 2019 I use an Okuma TCS Mat Daddy 7' 11" H/F 15-65lb 1/4-2oz. It's a really sweet punching rod that doesn't break the bank. It'll pull a good one out along with the pulling the grass out by the roots and dragging it all in. Quote
