tying feathered trebles

I want to tie some feathered trebles for my Spook Jr's.

Any advice for materials to get. Type of feathers (or any other material), thread, finish to protect the thread.

I have a vise I use to tie bass jigs already.

Very simple. Some crystal flash and saddle hackle. For thread, UTC 140 or something similar. And for a finish, most tyers are using UV resin these days. Check out the Loon Flow. It would be perfect for coating the thread wraps.

Try not to get too carried away. One pack of flash and one pack of hackle or deer hair will be enough to tie a lot of trebles.  I have more than enough materials to do all of my top waters and jerkbaits several times over.

If you can find them, white chicken feathers. Everything already recommended is solid. I use fly tiers cement to secure my thread after completing the finishing knot.

Always been a fan of Kevlar for tying jigs and trebles.  Now I use 6# braid as I can get at the Sportsman show even cheaper and 250 yds lasts me about a year now.  As for coatings … a drop of superglue does just fine right before the whip finish.

I use Danville 140D Denier flat fly tying thread that is un-waxed, good quality saddle hackle, either a skin or strung, Flashabou and after tying the thread off, I finish the thread wrappings with Sally Hansen - Hard as Nails, in clear. Get a decent vice and a good bobbin and you will be ready to go.

I use Krystal Flash bought from Tackle Warehouse tied with Danville thread. It doesn’t quite look like a normal feathered treble but it provides the flash i needed. Also check out the Tactical Bassin video about making feathered trebles.

Thanks for the nomination but anything I try wrapping with thread is a disaster. Those whip finish tools I had two. One I threw somewhere into the alley behind my house.  The other I took two pairs of channel lock pliers and mangled.

LOL.

I just use 2 or 3 half hitches and the nail polish my wife tries in vain to hide. I tie mostly #6 and #4 popper tail hooks, and large 7/0-10/0 single hooks for trolling spoons.

If you need any tied, just holler.

I can't use that dang tool either.  I learned to whip finish with my hands.

You guys should have seen the first hair jig I tied. Decided to use super glue and GP bucktail.  Ended up gluing the bucktail to my fingers and my hand looked like the Grinch that stole Christmas.
