Just got two Loomis IMX pros today, what to do?

I stumbled upon a buy one get one free on two brand new IMX pros, 853c and an 854c. I wasn’t planning on buying and actually was going back and forth between the 853 or 854 in the NRX. End of story I came home with both. 

 

Well I ran across this deal today and couldn’t pass it up. Now I don’t know what to do? First, I’ve never fished an IMX pro so don’t know what to expect. I like my full cork handles on my Avids but really prefer a split grip. Next, I’m looking for sensitive rod for mainly 3/8 jigs plus trailer and t-rigged plastics.  I’ll be 90% kayak fishing in light cover and a little bit open water. I was back and forth between the Kistler H3, LTB, and maybe if I could swing it the IMX. 

 

So, what should I do? Keep both IMX pros even though they are close in powers? What would I dedicate each rod to if I do that route? Sell both and get one NRX or other rod I was considering?

I have 2 imx pro’s, 3 new glx’s, 2 avid x’s and 1 kistler helium, higher end rod from  company we can’t name, dobyns Sierra, e6x, daiwa zillion and tatula lt rod and in the market for 2 nrx’s now. I love my imx pro’s! Sure they aren’t my glx, or an nrx but for the money I believe they are a great rod. The sensitivity is excellent, balance is great. The 853 would make a nice senko rod, heavier tube rod, light t-rigs, light jigs. I’d even throw smaller chatterbaits and paddletail on it. The 854 would make a nice jig rod (prefer the 7’5” or 894 series) but close to cover or docks it would be sweet. Great for skipping t-rigs like beavers, or jigs under cover and docks. Heavier paddle tails would be great on it. I see it that you stole them, so to sell it to get 1 helium, or 1 LBT I think you’d be loosing. To trade In for 1 nrx would be nice but your still loosing 2 nice rods for 1 great rod and it’s hard to get 1 rod to properly cover everything you need. Not a bad idea to keep them. I could upgrade my imx pro’s but for the money I love them! They feel better balanced then lbt’s, more sensitive then my avid x, better in the hand then the zillion. I personally really like the imx pro rods. Just my two sense.

Spinning or casting? 4 power is better for jigs & worms, 3 power for Senkos.

Only you can make up your mind and seems to be an issue!

You need to affix reels, spool string, thread eyes, tie lure, go to favorite honey hole and cast at some good looking submerged brush,grass,or rocks.

Dont second guess this, that’s a hell of a deal and the IMX Pro line has gotten good reviews by users here and elsewhere. Get some U40 cork sealer on them, then get out and fish the crap out of them. 

 

Differences between those IMX Pros and some of the other models you listed are going to be marginal to nonexistent. Will an NRX be more sensitive?  Maybe, but build quality will likely be crap and you’re gonna spend 4x as much. 

 

The IMX should be plenty sensitive and between those two rods you’ve got the techniques you mentioned covered.

I have a 853C and 854C GLX, they both definitely can do different things easily.  No need to worry about the power being close.  I basically do what Matt listed.

I'm really kicking myself for not getting a couple more. The sale had IMX pros and E6X rods all B1G1.

 

Unfortunately the most popular 894c's were all sold out or I would have grabbed one of those.

 

Do you all throw a weightless Senko on the 853c? I currently use a spinning rod for that technique.

 

Also, light texas rigs? Are we talking 1/8 tungsten plus plastic?

I think that’s a smart move. Two excellent rods and you’ll be very pleased with them. 

 

I don’t fish an 853 like I mention but have handled them lots. I do fish an 852c so have a basic idea of what the 853 should feel good for. A texas rig senko would be great on it, weightless or 1/4oz and less. I fish a 7’ medium heavy fast kistler rod and love the senko on it. Was just killing small mouth on that rod with a weightless t-rig senko last year in 20-50ft of water! I want the 893 this season for that exact reason. Little long to help control the fish and used in more open deep water situations and keep the 7’ kistler for around the docks and up too 15-20’ of water. 

 

Also 3/16-1/4 swimjig head or under spin with a paddletail would probably be great! Heavier tubes, larger shaky heads. I’d say it’s a fairly universal rod.
