Hey everyone im new to the board and had a few questions about a trolling motor i just bought.  I bought a minkota 55lb thrust trolling motor for my 12 1970 sears gamefisher v hull.  I also got a deep cycle die hard battery with the specs..

Battery Group Size: 24M

Voltage: 12.0

Power Ratings:

Cold Cranking Amps (CCA at 0 deg.F): 500

Reserve Capacity (RC): 135 min.

Amp Hours at 20 Hour Rate: 80

My 2 questions are this sorry if they have been beaten to death ut here goes.

What kinda battery life can i expect with this motor and battery cruising around my local lake? any ideas on how many hrs it can run?

Will this motor be ok for cruising the delaware on low current days without getting swept away?

any idea on how fast itll push a 12 ft fiberglass v hull?

Sorry but im new to the electric thing ive been running a 1971 evinrude 4 horse and i want to hit some electric lake around here.   Thanks for any help and i i have gained tons of knowledge from lurking around here so far you guys are awsome!

Thanks

Joe

Is it a brand new trolling motor, or is it used?  If used, how old is it?

I ask because newer models are much more effecient than older models.  Thus, you can get more out of them from a single charge.

i have the same trolling motor on a 14 ft alum. boat. my boat is probably a lot heaver than yours. i can fish for about 3-4 hrs with one battery. the secret is to have the correct typeof charges. standard auto chargers dont get the deep cycle batteries fully charged.

i had a 40lb thrust minn kota bow mount trolling motor and me and my buddy used that for tournaments and we could go 8 hrs on one battery. and we like to use the trolling motor alot. so with a 55lb thrust you could probabbly go about 3-4hrs i would buy two batteries for that.

If I were in your situation, I'd take the battery back and get a bigger one.  A battery with 135 reserve amps in a 24 series is a very minimal sized battery.  If you want to be able to stay on the water you need at least 185 reserve amps in a 27 series.

I've got 55lb bow mount with Maximizer and I have no clue how long it will last because I havn't been able to kill it yet. I have a sealed deep cycle battery that has like 850cca so it a little above a standard battery but even so, I'm on the TM all day and she still hasn't died. I fished 13 hours yesterday running the TM, 2 sonars and the radio and the battery had about 15% charge left. That was the closest I've gotten to killing it. The new TM's are very efficient.

70gamefisher! I sent you a PM. My minkota 40 maxmizer last all day at varible speeds on my 12 ft, boat. My electronics use a diffrent 12 batt. I make lake makes so I'm hauling alot of battery weight ( two deep cycles ) on the little boat. Weeds in the prop are a big battery killer per outing, I think.
