Super User Koz Posted February 5, 2019 Super User Posted February 5, 2019 It was in the 70's today and it's looking good through the end of the week. I think I'll spend my Thursday and Friday lunch time at a few of my favorite hot spots. It's been s-l-o-w fishing this winter and last week's polar vortex didn't help. . 1 Quote
EGbassing Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 About a month from now is when I start catching them in shallow cover. I was looking through my fish pictures and there were several pictures taken in early March of me standing next to a laydown or something holding a big bass. Nothing before then though. It's been months since I caught a decent fish so this spring is going to be amazing. 1 Quote
bassh8er Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 I’ve caught a fish every month of the year since I bought my boat in March of 2015. Ice fishing helps but November and February are usually the toughest months out of the year for me to catch one. Already took care of February this past Saturday. Pig crappie on the ice. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 5, 2019 Global Moderator Posted February 5, 2019 February is the last month historically that winter has a death grip on our local lakes. Some point in March we'll be open and I'll have more than 2 options to fish again. I'd ice fish but our ice is rarely thick enough, usually stuck in that in between of being too thin to walk on and too thick to break with a boat. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 5, 2019 Super User Posted February 5, 2019 The ice is usually off the lakes completely by St. Patrick's Day. Sometimes by the first of March, but those air temps can still be cold. Quote
Super User Koz Posted February 7, 2019 Author Super User Posted February 7, 2019 Today was supposed to be the day - but yesterday my son developed a fever and now he's out of school for a few days and that means I'm homebound. No fishing for me. That's too bad because temps are higher than expected in the upper 70's the past few days. Tomorrow is the last day of warmth and then temps drop 20 degrees. Looks like I'll have to wait until next week. Quote
Super User Gundog Posted February 7, 2019 Super User Posted February 7, 2019 Temps today were in the mid 50's and I was chomping at the bit. I have all my rods and reels out and am going through my tackle trays to check hooks and cut off old line. Quote

Super User MN Fisher Posted February 9, 2019 Super User Posted February 9, 2019 For the first two months of our winter - hardly any snow and fairly decent temps. Now we're getting buried. Two storms last week, and more coming. From the NWS: Monday Night Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 21. East wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible. Quote
