What is your opinion of a Fishdrops bait caster reels ?

Also what other reels would make for a good budget beginners bait caster. ?  (No Walmart crap)

I've always been a spinning reel kind of guy but I'm trying to expand my horizons :)

Best budget baitcaster is a Daiwa fuego CT, you can find for below $60 on Ebay and Amazon. Shimano Slx is also really nice in that price range but it will cost you a bit more.

I have never heard of Fishdrops before.  I would highly recommend spending another 30 bucks and get a Diawa Fuego CT on Ebay for $65.

IMO it is the best budget reel available right now., especially for a beginner.  Excellent braking system and casts surprisingly far.

I should have figured as much.  It was one of those spur of the moment purchases, but at least I don't have too much invested in it..

Return it if you can and pick up a Daiwa Fuego CT or Shimano SLX like others have suggested. You will spend more time being frustrated with a bad baitcaster reel.

Fishdrops used to be called Shishamo.  Garbage reel.  Stay sway.  You would be better of with a Daiwa Fuego CT or Shimano SLX.

Shishamo was a bad name but Fishdrops is worse. Every time I see that name I think of what Channel Cats do to my kayak when I catch them.

Never heard of Fishdrops.

I started on a Abu Garcia Black Max. I think it is a great starter reel for the price. If you can find it on a deal it is a really good deal. If you are committed to using a baitcaster long term it will be worth spending a bit more for something that will last longer. The Tatula CT is awesome.

Which one did you get? The $34 one with the carbon fiber paint job or the $44 one with the words "Carbon Totally" printed on the side?

Thanks for the advice..  I'll invest in a Daiwa in time..  Mean while I picked up a Garcia’s REVO SX  for $75 and a second rod.  From what I read in the reviews, its a good work horse mid range reel.

@greentrout and I are the resident Kastking cheerleaders on these forums. I can’t speak for him but I know I am tired of popping on these threads to suggest Kastking as a good beginning baitcaster.

The chorus of “$60 Daiwa Fuego beats everything” has worn me down. Even when you can get a Kastking baitcaster for less than $30 with the right sale.

I have had baitcasters for years and rarely used them. 2 years ago I bought a Kastking Stealth and Spartacus. These reels when set up properly were virtually backlash free and helped me fall in love with Baitcasters. I never had that kind of success in casting with my Abu Black Max or Daiwa Megaforce.

I have since graduated to higher quality baitcasters like the Lew’s LFS, Tournament MB and Mach Crush. The Kastking baitcasters will always have a place in my heart though.

I still use my Kastking Speed Demon regularly as it is my fastest baitcaster. The rest have gone to my son.

That’s a great deal. Even THE REEL TEST on YouTube loves that reel. He was critical at first of how Kastking’s new offerings are in the price range of the well known and established brands like Shimano and Daiwa but he became impressed with the reel’s casting ability and other features.

I read a quote today that makes total sense....

Quote

A $30 reel in the hands of a good fisherman, is far better than a $400 reel in the hands of an amateur.

When I first bought the Fishdrops, I read several reviews and several reviews rated the reel in 5th place out for top 10 reels.  Then again I was also told by the guy that sold me the reel that it was basically a Shimano, which its not.

I came across this extremely detailed post, complete with pictures,  about this real.  Now granted the original owner of the reel used in salt water, but I was amazed at his findings.   The only good thing he had to say was the drag system was all metal, something you only seen from reels from the 70's... that even your modern $400 reels weren't all metal.

So yes the Fishdrops is a junk reel...    So lets see how I do with this Garcia Revo Sx

Me personally I have bought a couple of the fishdrop and fishingsir baitcasters. I know people are pushing the typical Diawa and shimano reels bc that’s what you know and have field tested for years like myself. I, like many of you, hit the water hard and fish each trip with what seems like a million cast landing fish from small to sometimes 6-7lb bass. I like taking a reel like fishdrop offers and putting it to the test and I mean a real test. In my finding after such a rigorous day of fishing is far from what you all are calling crap.
I have many expensive great reels and have used them for years, but I will have to disagree on the thought that the fishdrop and fishingsir baitcasters are crap bc I haven’t seen any problems with the two I have and I love throwing them and landing many big fish with both.

I think some are cornfusing FishDrops with the AngryFish.   I have many FishDrops LH and love them.  I also run Sougailyang as a step up.   IMO they are both far above or in contrast to my overpriced Garcia.   As far as KastKing ya'll should google that an learn; or take it from me; the components are as follows: Penn, Diawa, Shimano.   How can you go wrong with those.

The bottom line is some are stuck on brand and not willing to put these new low profiles to test.   I really don't see all that and a bag of chips difference in any.   What makes them fish is the line and the rod.   I mean really what is there but two bearings and a spool.   If the gearbox fails on a hard pull that is another matter.   But I'm only 79 so I ain't been at it all that long.  CUONO   Cap Cobb
