Super User Chris at Tech Posted February 2, 2019 Super User Posted February 2, 2019 The only Shimano's I have in my arsenal are Stradics With that said, my observation as a non-Shimano baitcaster guy is it seems that every time a new version of a Curado comes out, the version just before the new one becomes the new hot item. And it seems the reason for that is usually that Shimano cut some corner with the newest model that they didn't in the previous model. Your mileage may vary. Quote

I own more Shimano's than any other. The K was an improvement over the I, which was an even bigger improvement over the G. To your point, the G was a definite down grade from the E, but to me they all are. Mike 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 2, 2019 Super User Posted February 2, 2019 As I recall the original green Curado stayed the same frame until the E series came as a economical version of the Chronarch upgrade. The Core series being in the Chronarch series price range. Locally the Curado E's didn't sell well, noisy compared to higher end Chronarch and were discounted. The Core series being one of Shimano's top performing reels, no comparison to heavier Curado E series. Not intending to down grade the Curado reels, they are work horses, the original green reels are still preferred by a few pro's. Tom Quote

RB 77 Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 Yes. I have been hoarding the "E" series for years now. They just have that "mojo" that no other Curado has had since. I recently took a brand new K down to El Salto to give it a proper go and judge from there. While it performed as well if not a MAYBE a smidgen better than the E under load (X Ship/ Micro Gear), the difference was so little it was essentially a moot point. The E blew doors on it casting wise, like it does so many other reels. The B earned a solid rep, but that tech is outdated. The D was a tank, but felt like one too. The G was a joke and the noisy brakes on the I were too. It was just one of those cases were a product lived up to to and exceeded the rep that made it famous in the first place. 3 Quote

I just finished cleaning and greasing mine. I feel like I lucked out when I decided to make these my primary casting reels. 2 Quote

Heartland Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 I had a few, I do believe they are/were very solid reels. I eventually decided that I preferred The Revo Premier Gen II, for it's superior drag, spool design and braking system. I always found the 50E the star of that lineup. 1 Quote
drew4779 Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 The E series is my all time favorite. I have a 200e7 and 50e chronarch, and a 200e citica that's been upgraded over the years. I've owned many other nice reels since, some that I really liked a lot, but still find myself fishing the E series reels more often than not. Quote
