Andrew Shelby Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Hey everyone! I’m acquiring a bass boat here in the next couple months but I’m trying to find on foot locations to reel in some bass prior to the big purchase. Any good places in the Madison, Hinds, Rankin county area?!?! I live in Canton, MS. Thanks for any help!! Quote
EGbassing Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 I can't help you with the question about spots, but welcome to bassresource! 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 30, 2019 Super User Posted January 30, 2019 I don't know exactly where you are, but all of the Tennessee reservoirs are your best options. 1 Quote
Andrew Shelby Posted January 30, 2019 Author Posted January 30, 2019 I’m more central MS so TN is over 3 hours away from me. Trying to find something within an hours of drive of Jackson more or less. Thanks for the reply! Oh and I’m 10 minutes away from the Ross Barnett but it’s miserable to bank fish from. I will however run it with my new boat ? Quote

Super User Sam Posted January 31, 2019 Super User Posted January 31, 2019 1. Welcome to the Forum. Great having you with us. 2. Congrats on your marriage. Your bride is beautiful, but us southern guys know that the prettiest girls are in SEC country, especially Jackson. 3. No idea where to fish in the Magnolia State as I grew up in New Orleans and south Louisiana and fished the Biloxi and the Gulf out of Shell Beach and Pearl River. 4. I had relatives in Sunshine, Mississippi, south of Memphis. Never fished that area but it was beautiful. 5. Be sure to wear purple and gold when you go fishing. 6. Be sure to yell "Geaux Tigers!" when you set the hook to get a strong hook set. 7. And last, congrats on purchasing your boat. May you have many, many hours of fun in it. I am sure the Mississippi guys and gals will give you some suggestions. In the meantime, "How About Dem Tigers?" 1 Quote
tander Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Welcome to Bass Resource!!! I live about 25 minutes from you in Byram. As far as a place to fish off the bank, I don't know of any real good places. I fish small like in Byram called Lake Dockery. I normally fish from a boat there but I have fished off the Dam and the west side. You probably will be disappointed if you try it but there are some good size fish in there. If you go there, try a Ned rig. Junebug when it is stained to muddy and pumpkin when it clears up. Barnett is good when you get your boat. 1 Quote
greentrout Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 jackson, ms area should be loaded with small ponds and lakes ... private waters in some of the upscale pockets should be awesome ... like down here ... gotta do some detective work and know the right folks... if you're willing to drive, which i do, the state offers excellent fishing lakes ... don't overlook the national forests' waters, too ... sometimes they can fool you ... go the to the dam ... find rip rap ... on most bodies of water ... a foot soldier's best friend ... be careful ... make sure you have a valid fishing license ... mdwfp law enforcement will likely introduce themselves ... good fishing ... https://www.mdwfp.com/fishing-boating/state-fishing-lakes/ https://www.mdwfp.com/fishing-boating/state-park-lakes/ 1 Quote

Dockery will be the first subdivision on your right when you get off 55. Since you have a kayak, you could kept on driving down to Crystal Springs and fish Calling Panther, big fish Lake, record is around 15ibs. It is a State Lake so you will have to pay to fish. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 1, 2019 Super User Posted February 1, 2019 Andrew, great responses. We have some fun on this site, especially among the SEC guys. Since you are a Bulldog, don't forget to ring that bell when you land each bass. Welcome and we look forward to your questions and input on our queries. 1 Quote
GReb Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I’m from the area but I don’t hand my spots out to bulldogs. Jk. The only banks I’ve had success from are private. Def need a boat for Ross Barnett. Fishing areas on the pearl are loaded with 10 ft gators so keep your eyes peeled 1 Quote

Yes I’ve heard of calling panther so I’ll definitely have to check that out! Thanks On 2/1/2019 at 7:31 AM, Sam said: Andrew, great responses. I kayacked from spillway to lefleurs bluff our past Lakeland bridge and saw a lot! ? Quote
