Hello everyone . I am pouring jig heads for the first time and wanted to ask about hook manufactures. I gather Gamakatsu hooks are a top of the line ( price wise ) but are they that much better than a Mustad , Eagle Claw , Matsuo , VMC . Names I found on Captain Hooks site. I would like to find a good hook for the best overall price , quality if that is possible. Any suggestions or comments on the hooks I listed would be greatly appreciated or other brand I didn't list. Thank you

The best hook is a relative term. Gami's, Trokar, VMC, Owner are all excellent hooks. Some guys just have to use those hooks no matter what. However, all the other hooks you mentioned are very good hooks. The best bang for the buck are Mustad and Eagle Claw. Eagle Claw almost always has a matching hook that correlates with Mustad sizes and styles. Also Eagle Claw are less expensive and made in the U.S.A.

Depends on what you want? Like Cadman said EC and Mustad are the best bank for the buck. Most factory baits use Mustad unless otherwise stated. Personally I use everyone you mentioned depending on the application but am not a Matzuo fan as their QC sucks. For my flippin jigs I like Gamakatsu hooks as they sharper and worth the extra money. For finesse jigs I really cannot tell much difference so I stick with Mustad.
