I just stumbled across this site and want to take advantage of some real user knowledge. I'm looking to get a big boy fishfinder and will be getting a Garmin Echomap Plus. I can't decide between the 7" (73sv for $750) or the 9" (93sv for $1000) screen size. I will be purchasing from bass pro so that I can use some gift cards. I've been watching to see if either go on sale but that may be futile. Is the 93sv worth the extra $250? Aside from buying both units and playing with them in demo mode then returning one, can anyone point out some things to consider? I drew both screen sizes on paper to compare and it's hard to justify spending an extra $250 for an extra half inch on all 4 sides of the screen.

The only difference between the units is the screen size. When you have multiple views open, each one will be bigger on the larger screen.  It’s up to you to determine if the bigger screen is worth the extra cash.

The thing that will help with the bigger screen is when you have the side view on the bottom half and then the 2D and down imaging sharing the top half of the screen.  I have the 7" one and I do wish I would have went with the 9" screen.

Do some searching around, I know you have BPS gift cards but you can use those for anything.  GPS store has some deals from time to time on the Garmin stuff.

I went through this last year. I ended up buying the previous year model during their "Spring Fishing Classic".

Significant markdown on the units and also had the perks of 3x points and free basic install (it was very basic, I ended up redoing the console install myself). I ended up being able to purchase a 9" and 7" for what the 9" msrp price was.

After having them for almost a year I wish I would have gotten two 9" models. The 7" is tough for viewing maps and sonar or any combination at times. Overall pleased with the units but the extra size on the 9" is nice. My price difference was around $100 though.

No clue what the deals will be this year but may be a good idea to wait a few weeks and check the sales ad.

THat's what I would do.  If you really want to use your BPS cards you should wait until the Spring Classic in a few weeks to see what kind of deals they have going.  Usually their finders are on sale pretty nicely.

I have no problem waiting for the sales. I live in Maryland and will not be fishing anytime soon.

GPS store has a Boat Show discount right now.  93sv for $799 and the 94sv with the lakeview ultra card for $849. Both are last years model and don't include the G3 charts

I believe the 94sv is the Canadian lakes and the 93sv they have isn't with the GT52 transducer which is the current model like you said. Thanks for checking. I wonder how the CV52HW-TM transducer compares to the current GT52 transducer? I wonder if you can even tell the difference?

Bass pro will be selling the 9sv for $600 and the 7sv for $500

I read on another site if you call Cabelas they are already selling the 93SV for $599, but you have to call them, it doesn't show on line, and last I heard they had less than 1000 in stock so it might be wise to try it now.

That's how I got mine.  I called the order in.  It arrives today.

Quiet as Bass Pro trys to keep it, they do price match.

Those don't have the latest GT52 transducer. It's actually a slightly older model which is why it's going to be on sale. Bass Pro just started carrying the newest model with the GT52 transducer a few weeks ago. Check out the SKU numbers.

The 93sv w/ GT52 transducer is sku 2648336- NOT on sale

The 93sv w/ an older transducer sku 2467182- going to be on sale

You can call Garmin for the specifics on the difference in the transducers, something to do with a legal issue w/ Lowrance I think.

That being said, could we even tell the difference in the transducers? Especially if it's a $400 difference.

This is what I was told as well a few days ago.  For me, I didn't really mind as I was only buying this to buy this to use with live scope...  I am still trying to justify the purchase for me, lol.  I just really want to experience it.  I did find the older panoptix transducers on be for $400... but they just sold out.

I don't know how much of a difference the new GT52 will be.  My fish finders get delivered today.. One was sig required and will pic it up tomorrow.  I will see just what transducer comes in the box an report back.  If cabelas somehow shipped mine with the better transducer, will not return it to BPS.  I am also trying the Lowrance 7TI.

I just ordered a 93sv through Cabelas so thanks dudes! I'm with you on the new GT52. Worse case scenario you could always buy the GT52 transducer separately and it will still be cheaper than the price of a new unit w/ the GT52 transducer. On the phone from Garmin I was told the GT52 will go to depths of 500' while the CV52 will go to 250', here is what they emailed me about the differences in the GT52 and CV52.

Hello James,

Thank you for clarifying because I didnt see that on the website. The difference between the two transducers is that the GT52 has three elements inside of it. It gives you a clear clearvu image and the CV52 has two side images that come together to create the clearvu image. The GT may give a more accurate representation of what you are seeing beneath your boat. If we can help further please let us know.

Just to confirm with 70diesel, the one I ordered comes with the CV52.

Also, thanks for contacting Garmin and posting the response.

Will the 93sv plus with the 3 in 1 transducer be involved in this sale? Looking to get one real soon

Posted

I just spent about 30 minutes on the phone with a tech from garmin. He said that there is no real noticable difference between the transducers. He pulled up and ran the units in a side by side comparison  while we were on the phone and stated that they are identical,  And to just perform a software update on the older of the 2. He said if he found a significant price difference in the 2 units he would most definitely opt for the cheaper deal. Especially if it was a large difference in price like the sale that Is going on now.

I also talked to bass pro about the sale. She said they are starting theirs on the 15th and will not price match cabelas at this time.

Yeah, they didn't watch to price match for me because the transducers are different.  Understandable.  The customer service rep at the store advised me to wait for the sale as it was "good".  Meaning, it would be the same along with the bonus bucks and triple rewards.

I just wanted to clear up the price match.  Bass Pro has price match signs "hidden" in their store.  I even took a photo of one just in case I needed to use it.  In their past, they would say that they do not price match.  In the past year I have seen signs waaaay at the back of the store on end caps stating that they do.  Then I saw it online one day, but now its not there.  Just saying, they seem to price match year round.
