I wasn't casting baitcasters at that time last year so I passed on it. I passed on a couple of purchases in the Fall in lieu of this sale. Didn't realize what a deal that combo was nor did I know it wouldn't come around again (or something comparable). My thoughts exactly. Even w/o the carbonlite combo I was hoping for some otherwise terrific deals. It's really all about the trade-in ... the exception being that PQ reel on the front page. No guarantee my store will even have that. usually they have a ton of stock of the PQ's during the classic. here's some alternative combos for around the same price: PQ+lightning rod $80 PQ+fish eagle rod $110 fish eagle reel and lightning rod $100 fish eagle reel and rod $130 abu silvermax+lightning rod $90 abu silvermax+fish eagle rod $120 1 Quote

tracker01 Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 Can I trade in a rod for a reel, or is it rod for rod and reel for reel? Quote

Happybeerbuzz Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Will BPS let you apply a credit from trade in against a reel that is on sale? I will get one of the pro qualifier 2 if they will let me. Quote

Got to read the fine print in a BPS ad. The PQ2 ad says "Excluded from rod and reel trade-in and any other discount. Limit 5." If I learned anything working for JM/BPS, you got to read the fine print in the ads. 1 Quote

Rpratt Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Am I reading this wrong are the Daiwa reels not falling under the trade in deal this year? If not a reel that did catch my eye was the Quantum KVD Smoke 3 reel. I noticed it's a little different then the regular Smoke 3's but would they really be that much of a difference? For example 11 bearings to 9 Quote

With BPS, who knows? They change things all of the time. This year they may have changed the policy. That's why I always preface with "When I worked there." Quote

I would prefer a Fuego but that is still a good deal. The limited color with the blue parts is cool too. I wonder if anyone picked any of the reels up, pretty inexpensive for sure. Quote

Speedy22 Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 The BPS here by me in st. Charles, Missouri is allowing us to trade reel for rod and vice versa as there is only one coupon for both this year, along with the trade in applies to all rods not just specific rods. Quote

Fablecatches Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 I picked up a limited blue PQ2 and compared it to the regular version side-by-side. The blue version felt significantly lighter in the hand, and overall felt more plastic than the normal version which feels sturdy and like a solid piece of aluminum. Makes me wonder if the color is the only difference. 1 Quote

Scuba Steve Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Confirmed at my store. Traded in two reels, used the coupon on two rods. Its one coupon this year. Last year they had two separate ones. Little disappointed in the sale overall and lack of inventory, but still saved a decent amount of money on the rods. Quote

The limited one still felt pretty good for $50. I didn't need another reel and managed to leave with only one new rod. The bait monkey is telling me I should go back and pick up a couple reels anyway....you never know when you might need another one or two...right? Quote

It has since then changed, but I would be a little careful. Of course, people said the same about the Carbonlite 2.0 reel from last year as well, and I bought it and could not be more pleased after a year of use. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 18, 2019 Super User Posted February 18, 2019 I went to Cabela's today and their sale was kind of underwhelming. A lot of stuff was picked over and the reel selection sort of stopped with the Shimano Curado. Quote

Dirtyeggroll Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 It’s a GREAT sale for electronics. If you have a Black level Bass Pro/Cabelas credit card you get 20% of the purchase price in Club points which equates to dollars you can use at Bass Pro or Cabela’s. Additionally, they give you a $100 gift card for electronics purchases over $1,000. I got a new Humminbird Helix 12 SI G3N and ended up with $620 to use at Bass Pro/Cabelas. BPS/Cabelas are not the cheapest by any means, BUT I will still end up well ahead of the game using this deal. Quote
