Theripper666 Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Hands down my favourite spinning reels but why don't u see many "pros" using the brand? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 28, 2019 Global Moderator Posted January 28, 2019 Maybe they don't offer sponsorships? 1 Quote
Theripper666 Posted January 28, 2019 Author Posted January 28, 2019 Never actually thought of that, aren't they part of pure fishing tho? Quote

Ott Defoe actually did rock Fenwick Rods & President reels for quite a few years. I think pretty recently he switched over to Bass Pro Shops stuff. Pure Fishing has a ton of pro's, but they seem to be with Abu Garcia for reels/rods. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 28, 2019 Super User Posted January 28, 2019 Maybe Pflueger doesn't need to sponsor someone to sell that particular product. An employee at BPS once told me that the president spinning reel was the best selling reel at the store. 1 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 28, 2019 Super User Posted January 28, 2019 I don't think Pure Fishing offers sponsorships for any of their lower tier brands anymore. Everything is focused on Abu Garcia and Berkley. They used to but Ott Defoe is the last person I can think of. Quote
Happybeerbuzz Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Look at it this way. If they paid someone to use that brand, they would have to charge us more. I am not saying it wouldn’t be a wiser business model than what they are using now, but I bet you I couldn’t have gotten the Supreme XT baitcaster I just got for $60. Quote

BigAngus752 Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Your favorite pro doesn't use the best available equipment. He uses what his sponsor gives him and then he tells you it's the best available equipment. It's not nefarious, it's just the way capitalism works. Fortunately you have the common sense to figure out what the best stuff is for you! 4 Quote

JHB Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Maybe sales are good enough they don't feel they have to. 1 Quote

The President is probably the most recommended freshwater spinning reel I see on forums all over the internet. I have four myself, the oldest coming up on a decade old and it still works fantastic. EWREX Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 150% because of the sponsorship deals that other companies give. Do you think Scott Martin wanted switch to Favorite Rods because he thought they were the best rod's on the market? They are cutting that guy a HUGE check because they know how big his youtube channel is and how popular of an angler he is. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 ABU is their flagship brand. Pflueger is their price point brand. One way they keep Pflueger prices low is not spending big bucks on marketing. 1 1 Quote
BassCats Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 It used to be that pros would start with pflueger and allstar or fenwick rods. Then when they started winning or got big name recognition they would be moved to Abu. Quote
