Bass fishing in a pontoon boat .

Does anyone have any thoughts on bass fishing pontoon boats ? I want something I can take the family out on and not worry about stability. Thoughts ?

I have fished  from a pontoon boat a few times.

It depends on where you are fishing and how big the pontoon boat is.

if you fish relatively open water they are fine. Actually a lot of fun if you take a family.

If you fish in timber or around cover they are not ideal. A lot harder to maneuver than a regular boat.

You can bass fish out of nearly any boat like a house boat for example. 

A friend of mine who became wheel chair dependant fishes out of his specialized pontoon boat, he needs help mooring the boat, but catches his share of bass.

I would think about teaching yourself and family boating safety, wear PFD's etc.

My family grew up boating in a bass boat, water skiing, tubing, etc, etc.

I did it for a year and it is OK

The biggest problem in wind and navigating in shallows.

I have see them with talons and bow TM that help tremendously!

The big positive is that 4 can fish easily and it's a solid platform you younger kids

Don’t make me post my pic again, fishing in pontoon, such a nice memory lol. I fish in pontoon all the time, that way I can spend time with my wife (stop her whining) and fishing the same time. The problem is to find the spot to anchor which might or might not have fish, unless you get a fishing/sport pontoon that equipped with trolling motor. Don’t forget net, the pontoon is pretty high above water you might not be able to flip every fish you caught. I notmally fish with jig, Texas rig and dropshot. That way I can drag and feel the bottom, if I feel grass mixed with rock I will spen more time on that spot more.

My plan this year is to use Float tube, so I can floating around where we anchor, it is a lot easier than move the whole pontoon and 6’x20’ lily pad.

I know two guides the use pontoons and neither seems to have a problem getting charters.
