The Michigan/Ohio border is a big speed trap.  When you're heading south on I-75, the speed limit on the Michigan side is 70MPH, but drops right down to 55MPH the other side of the border.  Ohio Highway Patrol sits there like sharks that smelled blood in the water.

Prior to the mid to late 1990's until they built an exit off of I-95 the only way to get to Hilton Head Island was via back roads. The last town on the mainland was Bluffton and there was one stretch that the speed limit went 55-45-35-15 and when it hit 15 it was right in front of the police station. Tourists would get to their hotels absolutely livid because they got a $300 speeding ticket on the way to their overpriced hotel rooms.

As for drivers, I've either lived in or visited most states and I even lived in Maine for a few years. I thought traffic was great. The had big, wide bike lanes along Route 1 and I'd have no problems riding from Portland up to Freeport or Portland down to Kennebunkport.

I did live in New Hampshire for a while and commuted to Boston every day. In my opinion, Massachusetts drivers were the worst. I used to call them Massholes.

Yeah, I forgot Atlanta. I wouldnt argue with anyone saying it was the worst.

I do distinctly remember ONCE when someone let me over where 75 splits with 85 ? I think. I am really nervous with the 8 lanes of traffic going one way. Tried to drive 30 miles to the east to get around it coming back and the traffic was HORRIBLE.

From my understanding Atlanta is not the Atlanta of 50 or more years ago. It now has many people from the NorthEast that moved there and you know how terrible many of them drive just based on some of the responses in this thread alone. I will go back to Georgia to catch other species of black bass but I will do my best to drive away from Atlanta. Los Angeles, California had terrible drivers the last time I was there several years ago and from what I read it has gotten worse. Makes me appreciate South Florida more to say the least!

Easy there cowboy, not all is attributed to transplants. That city has had a congestion problem for many years and not all is from transplants.

I worked in St. Petersburg back in 2017 and took the red eye out every Monday morning for 5 months and landed in Tampa at 9:30 AM. I climb into a rental and make my way across the bridge standing over Tampa Bay. It was a scary drive the way I saw those FLA plates speeding pass me switching from lane to lane.

Point is, every state has their fair share of bad driving going on. We should leave it at that. ?

My least favorite road to drive in Fl. is I-4 . The traffic there is unreal. We were trying to go home from Dizzy- world with 2 of the G-kids and waited for the rush hour traffic to die down. Left at 10 a.m and it was stop and go all the way to past downtown, top speed 5 mph.. No wreck, no construction , just too many people.

There are courteous people there though. Some friends and me were in a van down there once and we had a blow out somewhere downtown on I-4. We were in the far left lane going 55 or so. The driver was able to keep it under control, and people slowed to let us get across 3 lanes to the shoulder. We changed the tire and had gone a mile or so and the van overheated. We couldnt fix that. Apparently when the tire blew it somehow cut one of the hoses for the cooling system, but we couldnt find it . We had limited tools and it was after hours , in the dark ,so we started calling friends we knew in the orlando area ( which wasnt many ) Finally got ahold of a pastor we knew that brought his old towncar 20 miles, picked us up, we dropped him off, and rode home to N. Fla. Had to have the van towed. And bring his car back the next day.

Have not gone back, but it could have happened anywhere I guess.
