I would beg to differ. I cant imagine anywhere ( in the U.S)  worse than Fl. I drive in 3-4 counties weekly so I have quite a bit of experience.  People going 45 on the highways. People driving 80 mph on the expressway through town. People sitting at a red light even though they could turn R. on red and nothings coming. People drifting way over in your lane on the highway. They ought to give us hazard pay !!

It surprises me!!  Every time I travel I see waaaayyy more accidents than I ever do here. Especially Mass, NY, and FLA.  Florida is scary!!!  Since it’s based on traffic violations too, I blame Biddeford, theyre known for handing out tickets for anything and everything. ?

It actually surprises me a bit, I've have a house in ME since 2001 and have gone regularly since 1989 and the past few years I've seen a drop in citations and less ME troopers on the turnpike. 

 

The local police are pretty visible and driving on back roads where the speeds fluctuate more than a tidal pool is pretty much adhered to by drivers. 

 

I wonder if there's more accidents in the winter months where ME has way more snow and ice than most parts of the country?

 

BTW: I hate driving in Biddeford.

I know we have our share of crazy drivers. I don't do a lot of traveling but when I do I hate driving in Ohio more than any place I've been in along time.

The Michigan/Ohio border is a big speed trap.  When you're heading south on I-75, the speed limit on the Michigan side is 70MPH, but drops right down to 55MPH the other side of the border.  Ohio Highway Patrol sits there like sharks that smelled blood in the water.

They bagged me in the GTO when I was going back & forth from NJ to MI looking for a house before I retired.

According to the Ohio Officer my 'speed was excessive' - I could really argue that one.

Ha, they got me in my GTO too when me and the ex were on our way to the Toledo zoo.  I had an LS2 GTO.  Sold it some years back though.  I miss it.

Mine was an '05, bought it from a GM retiree in '08 with 9k on the clock.  Midnight Blue Metallic M6.  He was in my car club.  He really felt for me when my '99 Formula was totaled and made me a nice offer on his GTO.  He could no longer drive it because he had to have part of his left leg amputated due to complications from diabetes.  I drove the car for 4 years and enjoyed the heck out of it.  I sold it so I could use the money for the rest of the down payment on my house.

I dont know anywhere that was worse for speed traps than hwy 301 in N Florida back in the day ! Lawtey !! A car with New York tags passed me there once like I was standing still. I thought he wont make it to the city limits before getting stopped. He didnt. He desrved it, but they would get you there if you were 1 mile over.   Hampton was bad too, but Waldo was the worst. Got my first ticket there. Speed limit changed so many times you had to be diligent every second or get a ticket. None of them are as bad now .

'66 Gran Tourissmo Omologato here.  I never got stopped for speeding, though I came close once.  I was headed north in Foxboro on one stretch of road that intersects route I-95 I was travelling in excess o one hundred miles per hour.  Just before I-95 I zoomed by a state cop lurking in the weeds on the side of the road.

 

He pulled out in hot pursuit.  I had slowed and was about to pull over just after I passed beneath I-95.  Lo and behold two cars were wadded together on the on ramp.  Salvation was at hand.  The state cop had to attend to the crash.  I breathed a sigh of relief as the cruiser shrank in my rear view mirror.

 

My wife on the other hand got stopped a few times when she was driving with the top down for being young and attractive.  She never got a citation.

 

I'm from Mass, and will make my case for Mass being possibly one of the rudest states to drive in.  Case in point.  Want to change lanes in this state?  Put on your turn signal signifying you want to change lanes, and the driver in the lane you want to switch to will speed up to block your move.  In the south, even in rush hour on I-285 around Atlanta the driver in the lane you want to switch to will slow down and flash his lights to tell you it's okay to change lanes.  I've never seen a driver speed up to block your move.

 

Up here in the North yielding to another driver is a sign of weakness.  Down south when a lane is closed drivers alternate when the roadway narrows.  Not around here.  It's a game of "chicken".

I've driven in almost all of the eastern seaboard states and I can tell you Massachusetts has to be the worst. I've seen MA drivers do things you wouldn't believe. Like trying to make a U-turn on a bridge, trying to back out of a toll booth and driving about 30 mph on the interstate with no hazards on. They're worse than Canadians.

@Fishing Rhino, the lane change procedure has been updated. Now they turn into your lane and simultaneously put on the turn signal, whether they have room to move in or not. Can't tell you how many times I almost got hit by another car coming into my lane. They think it's a right of passage because their directional was on.

 

Don't get me started on the folks in traffic hour who feel the need to drive with high-beam lights.

It's a new thing. Blinker fluid used to freeze in our cold winters. We just got used to not using them for most of the year. Then the car manufacturers change the blinker fluid so it doesn't freeze...

She wasn't in the state of Ohio. She was in a state of confusion caused by side effects from some medication her doctor had her on. Honestly I have been up to Columbus and cut across to Cabelas in Wheeling West Va. twice. If I remember right it was on I 70. Most of the drivers and especially the truckers were being very careful and running the speed limit. Driving In Columbus and Cincinnati are a whole other story.

Florida has plenty of bad drivers, especially during snowbird season. Seen lots of out of state license plates driving terribly such as driving 80 to +100 mph in 70 mph highways, not putting the turn signal, not letting someone in that puts their turn signal, skipping multiple lanes, tailgating cars less than 20 feet while driving +70mph, and other terrible driving. Worst drivers I have seen in Florida are from New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, Georgia, and California.

The worst place I have ever driven in my life was in the highways of Atlanta a couple months ago. It was on a day there was a big college football game and it was raining most of the day. Saw plenty of big trucks, suvs,etc with college football flags driving terribly with complete disregard for others well being! Driving in Florida is a walk in the park compared to driving in Atlanta's highways. With that said I was able to catch a couple rare species of black bass so I achieved my fishing goal.

I do distinctly remember ONCE when someone let me over where 75 splits with 85 ? I think. I am really nervous with the 8 lanes of traffic going one way. Tried to drive 30 miles to the east to get around it coming back and the traffic was HORRIBLE.
