Kevfish Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 So, I have a new minnekota terrova on the front of my boat that has the built in transducer on it. I want to get a helix 7 and mount it in the front of the boat. It is my understanding that the built in transducer wont work with down and side imaging. I prefer not to mount another transducer on the trolling motor. So is there a way to run the built in transducer at certain times and then mount a 2nd transducer on the back of the boat and have it run off that transducer only when I want to use the side and down imaging? redbirdsfan44 Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 The short answer is yes. The built in transducer is called US2. If you purchase an SI model Helix 7 you can mount the SI transducer at the transom of the boat. Humminbird makes a Y cable that allows you to run 2 transducers to one unit. You would have to manually select a transducer on the unit then. It can be done but it’s way easier running 2 units. Quote

Super User Tennessee Boy Posted January 23, 2019 Super User Posted January 23, 2019 I'm not aware of any way to do what you want to do. I don't think there is a switch that will work with CHIRP and SI models. You can always contact Humminbird to find out for sure. Quote
redbirdsfan44 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 No switch needed for what you’d like to achieve. PM me and I can list the parts with model numbers you’d need to achieve what you’re wanting to do. I promise this is 100% possible without a switch. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted January 23, 2019 Super User Posted January 23, 2019 You cannot use the built in transducer for SI/DI you can mount an SI/DI transducer to the trolling motor Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 23, 2019 Super User Posted January 23, 2019 Unplug and switch. Quote
Kevfish Posted January 23, 2019 Author Posted January 23, 2019 Considering mounting in back of boat with the transducer that comes with the unit...then buying a 2nd mount for the front. Would be able to use the side and down imaging in the back of the boat and then just the regular sonar in front...will this work Quote

The only down side is the time required disconnecting and reconnecting at each station and the startup time for the fish finder after each move. Quote
