I received a Lowrance Elite ti7 for Christmas.

My boat is in storage 90 miles away and won't be in the water till April. How can I set it up at home to run in demo mode so I can learn (play with it)?

I already have a 12 volt kayak battery for power.

I should have explained it better.

Powering it up us not a problem. But, when sitting on my desk, the unit loads up the maps and looks ready to go, but it seems to frozen in standby mode. I thought it was a defective unit and swapped it for a new one but it does the exact same thing. When Lowrance tech support finally re-opened after New Year's I called but the tech couldn't help. He thought it wasn't grounded properly and it would work when installed on my boat.

Any suggestions?

Unfortunately it sounds like a 90 Mile drive is the best way to diagnose the problem.

Have you checked to see if the unit is running the latest firmware?

I think it's the following Settings > System > About > Support > Check for updates if your unit is connected to wifi.

Quote

Fixes

  • Data Sources being reset after software update
  • Xi5 sources and configuration disappearing after software update
  • Waypoint parsing error
  • Units stuck in Standby
  • Time syncing on network displays
  • GeoFence and Language unlocks being removed has been resolved

You can find the file and instructions here.

https://downloads.lowrance.com/software/index.html?r=1550

Settings > Simulator > Simulate on should work.

Click the files option and look at what it shows. I see this on my EliteTi 5

Sonar > eliteTIDEMO.slf2

AIS > ais.rsf

Select the above if not already selected and hit save.

It should now be functional as long as Simulate is set to ON.

My unit froze when I viewed the sonar with no way to power it off without unplugging the power cord. Once booted back up and I selected Simulate ON again it was fully functional as far as demo goes. I'm thinking it's best to reboot after changing the setting to ON or OFF.

Have you plugged in the transducer?

Posted

Yes, I plugged in the transducer and even put it in a bucket of water as Tech Support suggested.

Thanks, Kenmitch, for the software update info. I now have the update on a microSD and will install as soon as I can. Wonder why Lowrance Tech Support didn't suggest this?

No luck yet.

After the software update and putting the transducer in a pan of water the unit is still frozen on the "Select Language" page. The touch screen feature doesn't work.

If I press the Power Button the System Controls page come up and the only button that is blue is the "Standby" button. The rest of the buttons are gray, which seems to indicate it's in Standby mode and it stays there.

The Home Page has yet to appear.

I saw a video once about the touch screen not working. It has to do with the ground I believe. The work around if I remember correctly was to touch the negative terminal on the battery with one hand and then the touch screen with the other. Have you tried this too see if it works?

As far as the only button being blue when pushing the power button goes it's not normal for only the standby being the only option that is blue. Just tested mine too see. Maybe it has to do with you never got thru the initial setup of the unit?

I'll try the grounding trick tonight. If I have to I'll stand on my head if it helps.

The Lowrance Tech Help guy said it was probably the ground and he's the one who suggested submerging the transducer.

Your welcome. The video also said that just placing the battery on the ground should work also. Probably easier to play around with it that way.

So how do you like the unit? Did yours come with mapping software?

I'll try the battery on the floor. That definitely would make things easier. Thanks again for your help.
