Timothy Glen Vaughan Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 This will be my second post of the day - cabin fever is sitting in hard now that hunting season is over here in Oklahoma! Basically I have a $60 balance on my amazon account I am going to use towards a spinning combo. Will this combo meet my needs for experimenting with dropshot/ned/some Texas rigging or would I be better served looking at something else in a similar price point. I'm open to any suggestions, but I don't want to go to much over $60 if any. Pflueger Trion Spinning Combo - 6'6" Medium-1pcs $59.95 - Reel size is 35 1 Quote
moguy1973 Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Pflueger makes decent stuff. I like the President line of reels they make. The Trion is a step or so below the President and is a $40 reel if bought separately. So that's a $20 rod that it comes with. Should work fine for what you are wanting to use it for. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 17, 2019 Global Moderator Posted January 17, 2019 I don't think I have ever spent over $45 on a spinning rod and reel. I always buy them separately though. Abu Garcia cardinal is a good $30 spinning reel, I usually get a fiberglass rod for $15 or under at academy Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 17, 2019 Super User Posted January 17, 2019 One of my two newest spinning combos I got last year worked well for me. Garcia Mitchell Avocet RZ-2000 on a matched 6'6" ML/F Avocet rod- this one is in your budget. Loaded with 8# mono, this one's my finesse rod...drop shots, ned rigs, unweighted Texas rigs, etc. The Avocet combo comes in ranges from UL to Medium, all well under your $60 limit - leaves you enough for line. https://www.amazon.com/Mitchell-Avocet-RZ-Combo/dp/B077Y8G5S6 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted January 17, 2019 Super User Posted January 17, 2019 I have two Trion reels. One is a size 40 that's a bit too heavy. The other is a 30 I put on my "finesse" rod. I bought the latter in a pawn shop, still sealed up in the plastic. It feels just right for the 7'M rod I put it on. Good reels. Quote
Fishingmickey Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Shimano Seinna reel 29.99 and a Berkley Lighting or Shock rod. Tacklewarehouse has the rod for 49.99. you can usually find it at Walmart for less and sometimes ridiculously cheap like under 20. FM Quote
Super User Koz Posted January 17, 2019 Super User Posted January 17, 2019 I had a Pflueger Trion three years or so ago and I really liked it. When I upgraded to a Pflueger President I handed over the Trion to my son and he liked it for a year or so until he ran it over with his bike. For fishing the Trion is good. Not so much as an accidental bike ramp. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 18, 2019 Super User Posted January 18, 2019 Reel is solid... FM Interesting idea.. the reel looks solid and I know folks love the lighting rod. Assuming the reel I would want is the SHIMANO 0068-2681 Sn2500Fe? Quote
Fishingmickey Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Yes Tim, The 2500 model would be the one I'd get TW shows the 1000 and the 4000 models also. FM Quote
Glaucus Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Berkley Cherrywood rod and Pflueger Trion reel Quote

To the OP another suggestion is the Kastking Centron 2000 combo on Amazon for $59 https://www.amazon.com/KastKing-Centron-Spinning-Reel-Stainless/dp/B07D6NH8TR It is one of the better sub $30 reels I have ever handled.
