I'm going to be picking up a used Daiwa Tatula Elite 7 foot MLF. Anyone have one? Have any input on the series? I'm a St Croix guy and have never used a different brand other than a Pfleuger combo.

Any input is appreciated! It's a good deal, so I'm just curious what I'm getting out of it! Thanks all.

I have one season on these spinners and do like them as much or perhaps a little better, than my St Croix sticks.

These Diawas are indeed, lighter.

A-Jay can I ask which reels and what size those are? They look like the silver Tatula LTs. I need to get a couple new spinning reels for my wife and I’m leaning towards Fuego LTs or Tatula LTs in the 2500 5 gear ratio. If I go Fuego I’ll add a bearing under the line roller.

If you ever have one of those reels handy and think of it I would love a picture of one next to a dollar bill or something like that to get a sense of scale.  It's so hard to judge the size of most spinning reels from pictures and without a clear shot of the empty spool it's hard to even use published line capacity to make a guess.

Happy with them so far? How’s the line management?

Yes - very happy ~

I use 8-10lb braid & leader on these rigs.

Line capacity is perfect.

I'll post up a size comparison friendly pic in this thread for you tomorrow.

@kschultz76 and @fishwizzard  IMO - as a guy who has been fishing many different types, sizes & brands of spinning reels for 50 years - (wow, I'm old) For the money - this Silver Diawa is one of Best.

Here's a nice look at the internals and the actual reason I purchased these in the first place.

Not to hi-jack this rod thread but ~ Here ya go ~

These 'silvers' are a little tricky to find - so my bill choice could be a reflection of what may be required over & above MSRP.

Thanks! Most of my spinners are Shimanos and I was wondering how the newer Daiwas compare in terms of size.

Also, man, the new $100 is just awful looking.  I get that it's mostly anti-counterfeit driven, but there has to be a way to make it look less garbage.  Even Mr. Franklin looks less then pleased with his new surroundings.

Ok - and I hear you about the bills -

So any you have lying around that you Just Hate,  can totally be mailed directly to TW for me -

just write "Towards A-Jay's Bill" on the envelope - they'll know what to do.

Hi-jack away! My question has been hit on plenty. Plus, I always value getting your opinion as well @A-Jay, so that alone is a win! Thank you Sir :D

The Tatula LT's are killer reels. I have 5 of them. The 3000 in the shallow spool version is a perfect bass reel.

The 2000 has the same line capacity as the shallow spool 3000 but is overall a little smaller. I use them on my light setups fo stream smallmouth and finesse stuff. They are my favorite spinning reels for sure. Check Ebay to save yourself plenty of $.

We made the 2 hour drive up and got the rod/reel combo that this thread was initially about. It's as awesome as I hoped it would be after hearing all your positive feedback! Thanks again guys, and also for the extra hi-jack input on the reels too hahaha.

I wonder if Benjamin Franklin spoke any Japanese ?

It's been written that he got his kite string from Japan off E-Bay.

Glad the rod went into good hands!

Speaking of Daiwa products.. Ballistic LT's seem to be multiplying in my house.

If you want to come back into town this summer, you got my #.  There's this little lake called Mille Lacs that we could go hit. :)

How has the rod been working? Is it strong enough to handle senkos? I'm looking at the 7ml but I'm not sure if its strong enough to be an all around rod.

@Joshua van Wyk, I haven't had a chance to use it. I live job in Wisconsin and even my rivers are frozen over completely. -37 without windchill will do that ?

I can say that it feels awesome in hand! Very balanced and sensitive. I've thrown a couple of my go to setups (1/4 oz tube, wacky 4" yum dinger, 3/32 oz Ned rig) around in my house for fun, and it felt really nice: loads well, accurate, comfortable grip. Can't speak on backbone or power with feeling a fish.

I'm afraid I won't be much help with any advice until spring at this pace. The weather has been nasty!

I have never been on Mille Lacs.

But I don't think I can do Quetico canoe trips any longer to get my smallmouth fix. Bad bad back.

If you have room in the boat. I would love to learn the lake a little. I hear there are a few smallmouth there.
