moloch16 Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 My 9.9 outboard decided to quit working. I want to replace the gas in the tank just to eliminate that as a potential problem. Problem is, how do you throw away 2-3 gallons of already mixed gas? Quote
NY Fish Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Found this on the web (not sure if it works though but they never put stuff on the net that isn't true - right?? ). Maybe you could use it in your mower after you try the below. Procedures to Recondition Old Gasoline Filter gasoline into a safety-approved container through two layers of thin cloth or a coffee filter to remove any solids or semi-solids. The cloth or paper can be dried outside, away from the house and sources of heat, spark, flame, or ignition. It can then be disposed of with the trash destined for the landfill. Use the filtered gasoline by mixing with new gasoline at a 1:5 ratio (1 part reconditioned gasoline to 5 parts new gasoline). An octane booster may also be added to further restore volatility. Octane booster can be purchased at a gasoline station or auto supply store. Quote
moloch16 Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 Thanks NY Fish. I discovered my local landfill has a hazardous disposal facility, so I can just take it there. Quote
Bob Kavanaugh Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I got stuck with 10 gallons of crappy gas that I had to siphon from my (4 stroke) boat. I'm still running it through my mower and weedeater. Quote
Wilson Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 just put it in a extra can and use it to start your fires :) Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted April 8, 2008 Super User Posted April 8, 2008 Pour it into the gas tank of your car/truck. Make sure your tank is near full. The bad gas will be diluted to the point that it will not harm your vehicle. Quote
jemackinnon83 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Leave it in a bucket outside and it'll evaporate. Quote
Team_Dougherty Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Leave it in a bucket outside and it'll evaporate. Please do not do that. Quote
Bassman2144 Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 If we have any left over 2 cycle lawn mower engine gas we just put it in our car or truck. The ratio for boat gas and lawn mower oil/gas is about the same so just put in in your vehicle. Quote
