Kayak sonar pods

My 3Waters Big Fish finally came in last week. I bought a fish finder, and got my sonar pod all rigged up, but it’s got like 25 feet of transducer cord. And it seems like the battery is just there to bounce around. I know I’m being anal, but has anyone kinda cleaned up the clutter in their sonar pod? I’m generally an unorganized lunatic, except when it comes to my fishing stuff. I’d like to clean it up a bit and make it purty.

Nobody is really dying to drill holes in their brand new kayak, but you may have to if the wires are bothering you that much. I know it would drive me crazy too. 

 

Im not familiar with that boat but it looks like that compartment opens. Perhaps you can drill a hole or two and run the cables trough the cover. The hatch looks like it is designed to be watertight. I’d put the wiring and the battery in there. Just be sure to silicone the holes really well once you run the wiring through.

Have you looked at this solution yet? Not sure how big of a battery you purchased so it may no fit inside.

 

 

The Hobie thru hole wiring kit is a cheap alternative if you have access to the inside of the hull.

Oh, I’ve got it installed. It just seems messy and unorganized inside the pod. I  coiled up the transducer cable and zip tied it.

That's the cabling answer. 

 

As to the battery, I brace mine by using packaging foam pieces 'glued' inside the hull with Marine Goop

That’s not a bad idea. I’ve got some foam laid on the bottom to protect the battery from the transducer screws. I guess I could glue or Velcro some to the sides to make “compartments”.

I recommend wide 3M velcro for your battery.  All my wiring is in my kayak's hull.  I use Milwaukee M12XC batteries in a Pelican box that's velcro'd to the hull floor. 

 

The velcro peeled off the hull floor once, but a can of 3M Super77 spray adhesive cured that.

Not the most professional looking job, but it clears up some of the clutter and I’m pretty happy with it. Bonus- I can still fit my graph in there when I’m not using it. Probably throw my phone/keys/wallet in there while I’m out on the water.
