This will be a gateway JDM reel worth getting. The SLX will probaly be about $230 dollars to import to the USA. There will also be a JDM Scorpion MGL (Pictured below) which will be around $300 to import. Though the prices may vary by seller when they come out.661eb95cly1fz1woezgl3j20dk0dkdgf.jpg

Just so happen to have family traveling to Japan when these will hit the stores, cannot possibly pass it up if they are going to be available for ¥17,000-18,000 ($153.00-162.00), like I’ve heard.

Digitaka SCORPION MGL $196 usd shipped. They are waiting on stock.

SLX MGL $166 , same status as above.

I’m surprised  by these prices. Seems like a lot of reels were more just a few months ago.

JDM's generally quite a bit cheaper. Has to do with the exchange rate.

But weren’t they a lot more yen?

Most JDM shops price their goods at a lower price than the Shimano Japan site quotes as suggested retail. I'm pretty sure the Scorp and SLX MGL were these prices from the start.

Never ever take advice from Reel Test. That kid is a huge Shimano fan boy.  If you want a real break out down of reels head over to tackleadvisors youtube channel.

I completely agree with this

Maybe. I am a big fan of his tests and reviews overall. The thing that gets me is the way he does his tests. He first chooses a terrible rod for a casting test. Then he uses an anemic casting style. AND THEN he sets the reels to equalize their performance!!!

IMO, if he chose better rods to cast what he was throwing, used better casting technique and set each reel to its max, every reel he tests will get 50-100% better distance.

Otherwise, I love his reviews, they are are as good as it gets.

I commented on one of his videos once with a very minor and respectful criticism and he flipped out and cussed me out.

I thought the Slx Mgl would retail for the same price as the Casitas Mgl?

Am I the only one

Left handed models will be available later in the year according to some of the Japanese tackle blogers.

Shimano Japans site has the msrp as 21,000 yen (~$195) which is the same msrp as the Casitas MGL but street price on ebay and digitaka are $165 for the SLX mgl witch is $15 dollars more than the street price of the Casitas MGL

I have family that lives in Hong Kong. I think I’m going to get them to pick up a Scorpion MGL and SLX MGL for me. The release date is May, correct?
