Dylan Warren Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 Hey guys! I’m wanting to get into swimbait fishing, and I’m having trouble figuring out which rod to get. I’m looking at the Diawa DX swimbait rod, and I’m looking to throw hud 6” and 68’s and s-wavers. The MH is rated for 1-6 oz and the H is rated for 2-8 oz. I’m wanting the MH because of the weight range but I’m afraid that it is not going to have enough backbone for the huds. That’s the reason I’m looking at the H, for the backbone. Thanks for your help! Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 9, 2019 Super User Posted January 9, 2019 If you don't plan to go to 8" Hudds or similar sized swimbaits I would get the MH. None of the baits you listed are very heavy. I don't have any experience with that particular rod but those baits can be thrown on heavy flipping sticks. The MH should also work for a-rigs. Quote
Dylan Warren Posted January 9, 2019 Author Posted January 9, 2019 Okay thanks, are there any recommendations for reels, I was looking at the Cardiff but the ratio is kinda slow for glides. Quote

I was deciding between the Cardiff and the Daiwa Tatula 200 for my swimbait setup. Decided on the Tatula. Haven't used it yet, but I love Tats, plus I think I'll like the profile better than the Cardiff (which also sounds like a great reel). Quote
Dylan Warren Posted January 10, 2019 Author Posted January 10, 2019 Okay thanks! What rod did you decide on? Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 10, 2019 Super User Posted January 10, 2019 If you prefer low profile reels and plan to only use swimbaits or glide baits under 2 1/2 oz why look at 8' long swimbait rods? You can't palm a reel effectively with 8' swimbait rods or get a good hook sets. Speed kills when fishing swimbaits like Hudds or S-Wavers, it's different mind set. Irod 7'8" jr MH swimbait rod is a better combo with Daiwa Tat 200 reel. If the Daiwa DX MH 8' swimbait rod is your preference the Shimano Cardiff 300A is a better match. Tom Quote
Dylan Warren Posted January 11, 2019 Author Posted January 11, 2019 The reason of the Diawa DX is because it’s less expensive, I’m only 15 and I don’t have a job, so I want to be realistic with my price range. Quote

Dylan Warren Posted January 11, 2019 Author Posted January 11, 2019 How is it working out for you, is the weight range accurate, good quality? Quote

Super User NorthernBasser Posted January 12, 2019 Super User Posted January 12, 2019 I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Our lakes are iced over. Quote
