Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 23, 2019 Global Moderator Posted January 23, 2019 I took my boat out for an hour last night and caught countless white bass in 45 degree water. Some were hitting shad on top Quote

We're sitting on about 5 inches of ice on our lake so no boat launching any time soon. Quote

Super User Log Catcher Posted January 23, 2019 Super User Posted January 23, 2019 It is 54 degrees here right now with a 30 to 40 MPH wind. Supposed to start raining, get down in the 20s tonight and change over to snow. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted January 25, 2019 Super User Posted January 25, 2019 Dare I say business is good. We've been busy the last 3 weeks and I've done a typical weeks worth of sales between yesterday and today. Subzero temps begin tomorrow and another foot of snow over the weekend. Mo money mo money mo money. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 25, 2019 Super User Posted January 25, 2019 We are getting our seasonal amount of lake effect snow. Cleaned up a foot or so today and there's another one coming down now into tomorrow. It's not cold though so that's decent. Might be shoveling the roof this winter after all. Several miles of a few of the major thoroughfares north of me are whited out & closed. Good Times. A-Jay Quote
Arcs&sparks Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Had some negative temps Late last week. Plumber from work saw -19 early morning, I saw -5 where I am, closer to the coast. Anyway, we were expecting close to 2 feet of snow the other day, so I knew I had to get my ice shack out on the lake. Got to the lake and drilled some holes. 16” of solid clear ice. No problem driving my truck out to dump it off. Turns out we got a whopping 5” of snow. Today... 52 degrees and pouring rain. Stopped by the lake after work to see the brook raging and spilling nearly all of its water on top of the ice.... My shack and a handful of others are in a pond now, roughly 5” deep where I am, and appeared to be deeper where some other guys are, directly out in front of it. It was dark when I went, so I couldn’t tell where the water was actually flowing to? Not concerned about it right now, but I’ll be stopping by first thing tomorrow to take another look. I can’t imagine 16” of ice will disappear very quickly, but that brook will probably just get worse overnight, might need to move it already. Some of the other guys might be in for a surprise.. oh the joys of owning an ice shack, never a dull moment ? 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted January 25, 2019 Author Global Moderator Posted January 25, 2019 snow every day for the next week. Thankfully most will be lake effect so most the brunt won't get to us. The 11" snow dumping for Monday has changed and looks to be staying south. Starting tomorrow the Arctic blast comes in and it looks like the warmest it's going to be for the next 6-8 days is 10. The predicted windchills for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are as follows -35 -25 -22 There won't be a whole lot of work going on, they've already said 15 minutes outside 20 minutes in, and we'll do that until the wind chill get up to a safer level. Super User A-Jay Posted January 25, 2019 Super User Posted January 25, 2019 Bet you can guess who IS getting the Lake Effect Snow - and a ton of it . . A-Jay 1 Quote

A-Jay I saw that. Last I looked up your way was a couple days ago and it looked like you were getting dumped on every day for a few days strait. It looks like it's splitting right down the middle, it's going north to you and south to @slonezp and just an inch or two for me. I saw it looks like @slonezp is going to get -40 windchills next week. What are your temps looking like next week? Quote

Single digit day time temps with night time sub-zero numbers until next Saturday - with more snow. Middle of the week looks like it will dip even more as not to get above zero even during the day with . . . . wait for it - ……...more snow. Since I finished cleaning all the reels . . .now it's time to test & replace every treble hook. Right beside the nice & toasty wood stove . . . A-Jay Quote

I think we're going to get paint for the living room and bathroom tonight, come home and shut ourselves in until Monday morning. Our dogs will be doing the frozen paw walk a lot over the next week! 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 25, 2019 Super User Posted January 25, 2019 A wood fireplace is a requirement for our next home. I absolutely will not be without one. 2 Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted January 25, 2019 Super User Posted January 25, 2019 This week's been weird. Monday & Tuesday we woke up to 2* with a -18* wind chill. Cars on Monday were covered in ice and I had to take a hair dryer to the windows to melt it off to get to work. Yesterday we hit 60* and a ton of rain. The weekend forecast is mid-30's - 40's and no clouds. Strange. Stay warm folks BTW: @TnRiver46, we can't launch a boat here yet... Quote

I know when I worked for a company out of Chattanooga, they sure as heck weren't ready for 20's let alone single digits... Jet Stream sure is weird this year. To top that off your single digit lows will still be 20-40 degrees warmer than some of us. You better be in shorts and a tee shirt if you're that much warmer than us! ? 1 1 Quote

The coldest I believe we've had and it was in November was 12. I know some especially our Canadian members have probably had some sub zero temps. So here's what we'll do from now on, we'll chime in with any decent snowfall, current depth of snow, and any bitter cold temps. Since the southern boys have been getting snow they'll be able to join in for a few weeks until they start to warm up. West Michigan is getting lake effect snow today up to 4 inches. Where I am, merely a dusting. Our winter has been really mild which I'm ok with, last winter went on forever and a day. So lets hear what ya got! Pretty weak here! Who's the jerk that started this thread just over two weeks ago tough talking Old Man Winter? 1 Quote

I just fish from the bank when it's extra cold, I figure if people live in Canada all year, I can stand outside all day in 25 degree weather every now and then 1 hour ago, 12poundbass said: Here's something to think about.....you get single digit lows over night, some of us won't see that for a high for almost a week. Super User NYWayfarer Posted January 25, 2019 Super User Posted January 25, 2019 Northern Capital region got 2 feet of snow over the weekend. Yesterday the temps were in the mid 40's and over an inch of rain. Melting snow and the rain combined for some local flooding. Last night temps dipped into the low 20's and it all froze up. I can deal with snow, but ice and floods...fuggedaboutit. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 27, 2019 Super User Posted January 27, 2019 Now we're talking . . . AND - we're getting another foot of snow tonight to boot ! A-Jay 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted January 27, 2019 Author Global Moderator Posted January 27, 2019 Yup it appears that the bullseye for our storm is right over me. We are looking at 11" by noon tomorrow. Then Wednesday our high is 4 and wind chills around -35. 1 Quote
