Areas around us are reporting between 7.5" and 9.5" already - with up to another 3" possible. Right now though it's sleet and freezing rain. Even with the 4-wheel drive, I'm not going out onto that ice-rink they call the local streets.

I have no desire or need to be out in this mess.

I emptied my entire rig last week.

Cut & placed some sweet foam matting in the bottom of every space.

Seems today is the perfect day to start loading the gear back in.

And I guess I can take my time too . . .

I've still got two major things to do on the canoe

1) Build a rod-rack

2) Modify the 10' length of 2x3 tube steel I picked up yesterday to replace the main tongue piece of the trailer - extends it 5' to fit the canoe.

The wind is howling something fierce now. Thanks to the wind the snow has all melted. Supposed to be 55 by the end of the day.

 

Have you heard any ice reports in your neck of the woods to see how much or how little there is? The next few days our overnight lows will dip below freezing so I imagine you’ll be colder which doesn’t help your melting situation.

Blowing here pretty hard as well. 

I packed a lunch and made a wide sweep (about 60 miles W then N then E and then home) of my AOR (Area of Responsibility) few days ago.   Took most all day & a tank of petrol. 

At that time some of the small back water creeks flowing into a few of the lakes I target early were open.

I was surprised.

Despite the main lakes all still being frozen solid, I thought that was a good sign.

Not so much today though . . . .

Thanks a lot you Midwesterners, you cant keep that stuff to yourself. Northern New England is supposed to get the snow and we're getting rain from it on Saturday. It was supposed to be opening day for my son's baseball season.

After it was all said and done we ended up with 6 inches of the white stuff. The roads were good and it’s supposed to be around 50 today so it should be gone by the end of the day or tomorrow for sure.

They keep upping the forecast. Originally it was just a trace...now they're saying 1"-3". Anyone bet that it's more than that?

Yes.  I've been out twice.  Got on some decent fish.  Got blown off the water today - major wind.  Next week looks so-so weather wise.  My PC blew up so I can't edit or load video.  Only have my phone - hate it.  Be at least a couple of weeks before I can be up & running again.  Super bad timing.  Still fishing hard when I can just not posting reports.

We ended up with about 6" overnight. It all has just about melted with sun and 55* today. Supposed to rain every day this week. Knock on wood, this was the last snowfall of the year.

I didn’t end up getting anything. No rain no snow. Southwest of me they got snow. A ton of rain this week for me too.

It was a white out Saturday morning, but nothing stuck because it 40°.  It was below freezing this morning and sunny.  Weather is just messing with us all.

Looking at the forecast for the next 48 hours made me think about this thread. Today high of 92 extremely humid and heat index of 100. Tomorrow 94, extremely humid, heat index of 108! I know you southern boys are saying so what! Here’s the kicker, go back 6-7 months when our windchill was -25, that’s a 138 degree swing! Figured I’d share that. Carry on.

Nearly 8PM in Omaha right now and we are still sitting at 93 with a “feels like” temp of 108.  Far too hot for my liking.

Could touch 100° according to some reports.  It was 80° and humid this morning before the sun came up.

I was surprised to see on the weather reports the northern part of the country will have higher heat indexes than we will. Our temps will be low to mid 90s with heat index of 100 to 105. Cold front should be her Monday night to cool us down for a few days. Since I don't handle extreme heat well anymore I won't be fishing for a few days.
