Super User Crestliner2008 Posted January 8, 2019 Super User Posted January 8, 2019 After applying for my Real I.D. at the local AAA office, the permanent license arrived less than a week later! That surprised me. However, in looking it over, I could see very little, if any, significant difference between the new & the old. So how do you know you've actually got a "REAL ID" or not? Searching online for the answer led to zilch. I had no clue what I was holding in my hand, so I emailed AAA and got this response: "Your license will look similar to a standard, but the REAL ID has a star on the top right corner. Also, your temp license should read Real Credential in the red rectangle on the paper copy." Low & behold! Yep.....mine has the star, so I guess I can walk into a Federal Building now and not get arrested. (Not saying that they won't arrest me for something else however!) Figured some/all of you might like to know this. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 8, 2019 Super User Posted January 8, 2019 I don't know about your state, but in MN if it's NOT a real ID then it says. "Not for federal identification" across the top. I went in for mine, but my birth certificate was the hospital one - I have to send back to MA for my official one. Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted January 9, 2019 Super User Posted January 9, 2019 We will have a choice here in Ky. Starting in March The state will have 2 different drivers license. One will be a standard license and the other one will be a real I.D. license. I don't plan to get the real I.D. I don't fly and I don't plan on being in a federal building other than a post office. I just renewed my license not too long ago anyway. Quote

The way the law in MN is written - if you can't attend due to your own fault...not having proper ID, they fine you as 'Non Compliant to a court summons.' Quote
Super User Gundog Posted January 9, 2019 Super User Posted January 9, 2019 We are missing the "Real" point! How do we know we are really who we think we are. And if we aren't who we think we are, who are we? And if we are who we think we are, how does the government know that and why can they confirm it with a piece of plastic? I think they are bluffing. I think they don't know if we are real or not. They are just playing along. Merely dancing to the music the fiddle player is making. What would happen if we decided that their I.D. wasn't real? Or better yet, if they didn't exist and were just a figment of our collective imagination? Think about it if you dare!!! 1 2 Quote

"The phrase “I think, therefore I am” means that thinking is the one thing that cannot be faked. It is the one way that individuals know they exist. This phrase is an English translation of the Latin phrase “Cogito ergo sum.” It was first used by philosopher Rene Descartes." So, I know I exist. However, I'm not so sure about you. Quote

Correct, if you have a good lawyer. Quote
