spslewis Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 I posted a few weeks ago. Thought I would ask opinions on Hubbard, Thunder bay and Devil lake for small mouth. Planning a trip first week May this year. Coming from PA and my cousin from Houston. We hit St Clair last two years. Liked it and caught a lot, but lots and lots of boats. thanks for any info SL Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 7, 2019 Super User Posted January 7, 2019 There 's is a Very Good Chance ~ that you Will Not see ANY WHERE NEAR the boating traffic on any of the waters mentioned above as you may experienced on St Clair in May. A-Jay Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted January 7, 2019 Global Moderator Posted January 7, 2019 Sounds like you're no stranger to the brown bass, either way there's some good reading pinned at the top of this section. If you head up there a post trip write up and pics are a must! Good luck. 1 Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 @A-Jay will those lakes be thawed out by the 1st week of May? Quote

It's a toss up, it really is. Ice out could be Mid April - Could be Mid May. I'm a fan of the earlier time frame. Last season it was 5th of May - Hated that. Pre-Spawn lasted like 20 minutes - tops. A-Jay It just seems that it could be really cold up there during that time frame. I know I've fished Lk St Clair a ton and it could be 80 degrees the 1st week of May or it could be 40. Make sure your lodge has a decent cancellation policy @spslewis 1 Quote
