At this point, I'm still well behind the curve when is comes to 'Mastering' either.

So I don't rightly know just how to respond ? ? ?

It's skill to know where they should be. It's luck to find that they currently are where they should be.

Amusing, which I think was the point.

I guess what's meant by "luck" is -the things we can't control. "Skill" is what we can (or think we can) control.

Here's one way I've looked at this conundrum: "Random" catching is what anyone  (or a machine) chucking lures might have caught. Anytime we apply any amount of knowledge that takes us beyond random, can be put in the "I made a difference" category.

It can be called luck, intuition, gut feeling, or any other adjective or adverb but the fact is it exists!

Sometimes the little ducks just line up all in a row!

I agree and disagree in equal but uneven ways. How do any of us know if luck played a part in a catch or if we subconsciously willed it to happen using the 90% of our brain we are not currently using? When does mastery of a skill become the ability to use the skill to gain the desired outcome? Do fish even get caught or surrender to those who have achieved the respect of peers whom believe said person has grown powerful in the art of angling? When does the influenced become the influencer? Who's behind the curtain? Why does he only lift one leg? Where is his pants? These are the true questions we should be asking ourselves Gentlemen and Ladies.

Entschuldigung, ich furzte!

I'm so lucky when I fish, that on my very first topwater along-the-shore cast, I hit the biggest fish in the pond right on top of the head, and it splashes away terrified, tells all its buddies to stay away and I don't catch anything that day. ?

Like any sport, the more I practice the luckier I get.....The key is to improve the quality of practice

This one is tricky. Mr Dance is a very experienced fisherman. He knows there may be some luck involved in a good catch. So I'm gonna say true. We can master as best we can the " skill" part of fishing, but there may always some luck there too. That's fishing

I really dislike when people call fishing all luck. Like we just throw a bait out there and wait for a fish to come to us. First of all, we have to generally know where to find the fish we're after and that's a skill. Second of all, we have to know what baits, when, where, and how. That's skill. And lastly (and I'm no professional at all), I outfish my group and anyone I fish with time and time again. I get asked, how? Because we fish in the same spots and with the same baits usually because we're together. But I outfish them almost every single time. Why? I haven't got a darn clue other than an instinctual part of who I am that feels exactly what is going on and what I have to do. Being a good fisherman is a skill that goes beyond what you can learn but is rather a god given talent.in professional sports like football we talk about the things you can't teach that makes players so good. Well good fisherman are the same way. Some things you can't teach because you've got to simply be created and born with those intangibles.

I don't know that it's awesome. The hat and Raybans are his trademark

No such thing as luck....

This. Even if there were how would you "master" it?

Who doles out all the luck? Where is all this luck stored, manufactured, what does it look like? Can I buy it on the streets? ;) "Hey Mack, I'm all outta luck. Got a dime-bag?"

If you have a great day fishing but get run over by a cement truck on the way home, were you lucky? ?

Finally, I've never heard a NASCAR announcer say, "What an awful crash! It looks like his skill has finally run out!"

"I agree, Jim-Bob. He spent far too much time practicing on the track and precious little time working on his luck"

Jim-Bob: "What an idiot"

Boat, buy the cap and if you can make it to a Bassmaster Classic one year take the cap with you and he will autograph it for you.

A great keepsake for you and your grandchildren.

It is a honor to be in the presence of such great fisherman!

I think the skill is finding the bass, and putting together a pattern based on the conditions.  Luck comes into it when you're on the water and have no problems, and catch a 30 pound bag.

I took  my cousins son fishing once this year and was out-fishing him pretty badly .  He called me a lucky-dog . We were using the same lure  , he just wasnt  keeping it in a "lucky"  strike-zone as long as I .
