kenmitch Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 Just wondering if anybody else has seen the $100k bounty offering. https://fishstanley.com/100000-00-bass-bounty/ Looking at the rules I think pretty much every lake in California that has the potential for a world record LMB isn't eligible. Quote Eligible Location: Eligible waters within the Continental USA in which the general public has free and unlimited access. Guess it's more or less a sales gimmick. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 4, 2019 Super User Posted January 4, 2019 Didn't Mustad have something similar going on if you used one of their hooks and caught a record too....nothing more than a sales ploy and gimmick really. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 4, 2019 Super User Posted January 4, 2019 Interesting. Good Luck A-Jay Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 4, 2019 Super User Posted January 4, 2019 Rule 2 could eliminate California because Dottie 25.1 lb bass wasn't certified as a world record....that is nonsense! Camelot-Bell would be eliminated, it's a private lake. What happened to the million dallor bounty? Stanley would have more participation offering the 100K for a LMB exceeding the current 17.86 lb bass caught on a Stanley jig. Tom Quote

Reading is fundemental... Rule 2. speaks to dual certification where state and "other jurisdiction" conflict, not to previous catches. Sure, this is a "sales gimmick" if you like, but there is nothing keeping someone who meets all the requirements from collecting the loot. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted January 4, 2019 Super User Posted January 4, 2019 I think it's fair that only publicly accessible waters are allowed. I do wonder about ramp fees. Some lakes, the only way to fish them is through a launch, and even public launches have fees. Not a big deal, since NY isn't going to be a contender. Quote

A person could probably scrape up the $100k or more from endorsements from vendors, rod, reel, line, lure, vessel manufacturers if they played their cards right anyways. Quote

I was thinking of ordering a custom mold from the Ukraine and getting a BassOmatic on Ebay, and heading up to the Catskills and catching maybe 25 lbs of dinks (just in case, cause you can never get all the mix out of the blender), and casting the winner,... You are saying that won't work? I need to know cause the auction ends soon... 1 Quote

Send me a picture of that Dolce & Gabbana wrapped boat, careful not to trip on the Hermes tackle box though, baller!.... Seriously, launch fees probably wouldn't legally disqualify a body of water unless they were required and the exclusive access for the angler, (not the boat) to the body of water. I'm no lawyer, but I have driven more than one tournament director (and one FOX sports exec) to tears, and I always get our $$$. Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 4, 2019 Super User Posted January 4, 2019 4. Free and unlimited access would eliminate the majority of California public lakes, we have access fee's for vehicle entering and boat launching. Our public lakes have operating hours and closed between sun set to sun rise in SoCal. I believe the intent to this rule is to eliminate private lakes attempting to raise world record bass like Camelot-Bell in Texas. Good luck, Tom 1 Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted January 4, 2019 Super User Posted January 4, 2019 You can bet if I caught a "world record" bass, I could/would parlay it into a very good payday from the manufacturers products I used. Wouldn't be hard at all. Now I just gotta catch it. Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 4, 2019 Super User Posted January 4, 2019 The current world record LMB caught by Manabu Kurita in 2009 is 22.5 oz any new world record must be 2 oz heavier or 22 lbs 7oz, not 22 lbs 6 oz, just for clarityi if seeking IGFA record. Catching it is possible I keep telling myself. Tom Quote
kenmitch Posted January 4, 2019 Author Posted January 4, 2019 If I caught a 23lb'r that had the tail of a 2lb trout or other fish sticking out of its throat count as the record? Quote

As long as it got there by the bass eating it and there aren't your fingerprints on the trout, then you are good. However, if they find that the trout has a bunch of lead weights stuffed in its belly, then there be trouble abrewin'... Sudden thought, what if a 12lb bass has delusions of grandeur and attempts to eat an 11lb trout... Quote

Private water bass should not count for this or any other potential world record fish for any type of record. There should be a asterisk (*) for private water fish records to let the world know the fish was caught somewhere a person had an unfair advantage (somewhere most people are not allowed to fish). Similar to when someone uses PED's for a sport that does not allow these drugs. 19 hours ago, kenmitch said: Just wondering if anybody else has seen the $100k bounty offering. https://fishstanley.com/100000-00-bass-bounty/ Looking at the rules I think pretty much every lake in California that has the potential for a world record LMB isn't eligible. Super User WRB Posted January 4, 2019 Super User Posted January 4, 2019 Back in the 90's when Bassin magizine offered $1,000,000 for a world record LMB it created a circus like atmosphere at Lakes Casitas and Castaic thought to be where a world record bass could be caught. Motor homes, travel trailers, pickup campers towing boats from every state and parked in overflow lots near the lakes. Lots of giant bass were caugh and lots of anglers were arrested for using illegal live bait, gill nets, multiple rods etc. Add enough money and you are begging for cheating to happen. My friend Robert Munoz owner of Trophy Fish Mounts had boxes of lead weights from 2 lb diver weight to rock fish torpedo weights, the bass came to him frozen to make mounts and anglers were so stupid they didn't remove the frozen fish stuffed in the bass or the lead weights and lead BB shot bags. You name it the bass managed to swallow it. Today to get a certified record bass it must be inspected to validate the bass was caught legally, the scale is certified, nothing added to increase weight and witnesses who can verify the catch. 100K shouldn't cause the circus a million dollars did, I hope! I know JM paid almost $5 Billion for a bankrupt competitor recently, but that's a stretch. Quote

I'd imagine under the stress she wouldn't survive such a journey. Depending on where in the country such a bass is caught she might not even survive to the closest BPS. Most likely it would also be illegal to transport the fish alive. I'd imagine a person would be able to cover the fines involved in the end anyways. It's possible being a world record class fish that the state may make an exception to the rule and wave the penalties and allow the transportation of the fish. I'm still leaning towards it would be really difficult to keep her alive long enough to strike a deal for the live fish. It would be kind of sad to see her die only for the reason of ones greed. I'm thinking the world record bass would have more value closer to the location in which it was caught. I don't know about you guys but if the world record was caught in Texas, Georgia, Florida, or some other state I wouldn't really drop whatever I was doing and head that way. Someday I want to make the trek up to Northern California and fish the *** Spotted Bass, but I'll go with the intent to just fish the waters they haunt. The odds of catching a world record bass are pretty slim in the 1st place. A person probably has a greater chance of getting struck by lightning a couple of times and surviving. I guess there's always the genetics angle that could come into play. If she survived the trek and was put into a well maintained holding pond under the right circumstances maybe you could get a spawn or two or three out of her. I guess you'd need some super sized male bass to increase the odds of generating some super sized offerings. Grow the offspring to a couple of pounds and then sell them off as pairs of potential world record class bass. I'm sure somebody like Johnny Morris would have the resources for this. The real downside would be that the lake in which it was caught would be beat to death by every bass angler within 100's if not 1000's of miles. The most interesting scenario would be to put a tracking device on her and release her back into her natural environment and study her habits and the places she haunts. I guess once a pattern is figured out you could place some underwater cameras in those areas and live stream her in her natural habitat. It would probably be of more benefit to the study if one was to also track some other bass in different weight classes to get a clearer picture of what it takes to be the big girl in the waters. Having said all that....I kayak fish so I'd most likely be arsed out unless one of the bass boaters hears me screaming at the top of my lungs like Mike Iaconelli and comes over to investigate. I guess my saving grace would be it really was a big one. If nobodies around then I'm not sure what would happen. I guess I could just keep her in my net and hope she doesn't jump out while I pedal away and she swims. Most likely I won't have to worry about that anyways, but the has crossed my mind. I'd imagine it would be quite a feat to land such a monster fish in a kayak. What would be protocol if one was to catch a world record? I figure the 1st step would be yelling and screaming, possibly a heart attack, and a whole lot of holly mollies. Gets a little vague after that if one survives the heart attack part. I know the fish has to be weighed on dry land. Length and girth measurement, scale sample? What's after that? Quote
